Hunter arrested after school bus shot

A hunter was arrested in McHenry County on Thursday after police said his errant shotgun blast blew out two windows on a passing school bus.

None of the more than 20 children on the bus was injured in the shooting on Illinois 173 just east of U.S. 12, said McHenry County sheriff's Sgt. Karen Groves.

Authorities said they don't believe the hunter -- identified by police as Steven D. Carr, 35, of Grafton, Wis. -- meant to hit the bus. But he was still arrested and jailed on charges he was reckless when he allegedly shot in the direction of the roadway while hunting wild game, Groves said.

Just after 4 p.m., the McHenry County sheriff's office received a call summoning them to Illinois 173 in Richmond. The caller said two of the school bus windows had been shattered. When deputies arrived, Carr was awaiting them. He reportedly had been hunting at a nearby hunt club, Groves said.

I live about 5 miles from where this happened....all I've ever seen at this hunting club is pheasants.

Of course there is an elephant sanctuary down the road....maybe they were aiming at them.
