Has anyone noticed tons of military-themed children's clothes???
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 10:52 PM by seafey
I went to buy some pajamas for my boy, and I used to try and stay away from overly sporty or boy cliche stuff, like hammers and nails or whatever other stupid stuff they print on these things, but now, I'm thankfully snatching up the baseball pajamas to avoid the ones with fighter planes and bombers and camouflage on them!

6. Yeah, luckily I have made it VERY clear
to my son and to his father that there will be NO war video games...

Well, for what that's worth, anyway.

2. Wow, good point.

Probably a good thing I have a daughter.

I have to avoid the 'let's make everyone from 3-18 look like a complete tramp' stuff. With girls, it is so difficult to explain to them why they should study their math and reading, so that they can become a professional later. All they see on the television is cheerleaders and singers.

We have a joke in our extended family that my husband's partner thinks of Britney as the model career woman.

I hear the drumbeats of the warmongering patriarchy returning...

5. Better than that are the McDonald Toys
where the good guys are shaven blonde haired and blue eyed while the evil villain is a dark skinned arab with lots of facial hair.

I still have them.

The blonde guys shoots rockets and the Arb is mixing up a deadly disease. These are probably DARPA toys.

3. Those militaristic designs on boys' clothes first came into fashion
during the Reagan administration. No wonder there are so many twenty-year-old freepers.

4. Something sad I saw yesterday
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 10:44 PM by chookie
While standing in line at a Joanne's store, I saw a mom and her approx 9 year old daughter with their purchases. One was a "Do it yourself Christmas tree" -- some kind of frame, over which you stretch a bit of fleecy fabric. The other was a piece of camo fleece.

Although it makes me sad to think this is a family missing a soldier in their family this holiday -- it would be scary to think that they might be Bush Worshippers and think a camo Christmas tree is in the true spirit of the celebration of the birth of Christ.

7. I have 2 boys and noticed this...
seems to me like there is a cycle/recycle of patterns the companies that make them use. I ended up getting mine airplanes instead of the spiderman he wanted (haven't seen any baseball ones, but then I live in a small town).

12. Yes. And on bedding, in games, toys, shoes....everywhere!
Magazines and I notice more "war" movies on TV. Pathetic!

I'll bet if we paid closer attention, we'd find military xmas ornaments too!

14. Yes, and I refuse to buy it for the triplet boys....
They are only 4. I refuse to buy into militaristic crap for them. If others in the family do, I cannot stop them. Nor will they ever get war toys or play guns from me.

17. I don't let it in my house...
I can honestly say if anyone gave him something military I would chuck it in the garbage. And I HATE to waste things, but I don't want some other kid to have it. It's TOXIC and should be chucked!

The only caveat there is I can't control what he has as his dad's house or what his friends have at their house...

18. Not to mention video games.
Although they are fun (ie - Counterstrike, Halo2, etc.). They will all train us to fight in the final war of the world.
