Wellington Webb and Donnie Fowler (Candidates for DNC chair) on C-SPAN |
|
I don't know much about either of these guys, but I was pleasantly surprised by both of them. Webb said that he thought Kerry conceded too soon, and Fowler blasted right wing callers. He told the last one who called in that his POV was wrong and disgusting, and that he hoped with his attitude that he stayed in the 'thug party. I've been supporting Dean for DNC chair, but it appears to me we have some other viable dems up for the post. Anyone else hear these two guys?

I love howard dean, but these guys both would make me feel better about the leadership of the democratic party. They both reponded to the racists, homophobes, and mysogynists well. I especially liked the way fowler told those people to stay with the repubs.

One thing stood out. Some 80 year old lady called in when Mr. Webb was on. She started the partial birth abortion talk - how it was murder, killing a baby right before it was born etc.. He replied that people should be allowed to have choices. From what I've read here and other sites, I understood that there is no such thing as PBA and that the actual procedure is very rare and involves all kinds of medical problems etc. I felt that his answer gave the impression that Democrats are all for killing perfectly healthy babies as soon as they pop out!!

the problem I see is that OUR message that Abortion is RARE and UNUSUALLY is not getting out there. that we allow for freedom of choice, when necessary. How dare someone tell a woman that she may not abort when her life is in danger. It makes no sense. How dare they require that a teenage girl must get the permission of a parent to abort when it was the parent that caused the pregnancy or allowed it to occur/ How dare they restrict a persons right to be a free thinking and acting HUMAN being.

4. I've come to a different conclusion |

Roe already enables states to intervene after viability. Why aren't dem leaders stressing this fact? As far as parental notification goes, I'm baffled as to how we can respond to those who say that medical professionals need parental permission to perform practically all medical non-emergency procedures but not abortion. It's a valid point and we need to deal with it. As far as pregnancy caused by incest goes, most teenage pregnancies do not fall into that category. I'm conflicted about parental notification. I think both sides have reasonable arguments. I'm not outraged by people who hold a position different from mine. If you believe abortion is murder, it follows that you'd want to make it illegal. I don't agree, but I see nothing illogical about the argument.
