I just caught a section on CNN Money. It blows me away. |
|
The moderators asked the most inane questions. No research. They did not even appear to understand what they were talking about.
This is what was presented.
There is nothing pressingly wrong about social security. Won't be for forty years if the economy stays in the crapper. At that time, it will be broke.
Social Security is a partisan issue, a Democratic sacred cow. Democrats want it, Republicans do not. It will be the issue of 2006 when the nation, which is more Republican, will vote even more senators in privatize social security. (What about the Republicans that work jobs that have no retirement plan? They don't want social security? I don't know. Nobody asked.)
The AARP would have been a formidable foe, but Bushco has bought them off promising no cuts in benefits for those over 55. (What cuts are planned for those under 55? I don't know. Nobody asked.)
If you invest in the Stock Market and Mutual Funds, you will have lots and lots of retirement money. (What about all those people who are now saying their 401Ks and Simple IRAs are worth half what they once were? All those people who invested in mutual funds in the 60's to see them wiped out in the 70's. I don't know. Nobody asked.)
What safety net will be available should the Stock Market tank? (I don't know. Nobody asked.)
Privatizing will be voluntary. You can if you want. (Will those that elect to remain with social security see the same cuts those that privatize will? I don't know. Nobody asked.)
This is the new partisan issue. Strange...until today, I never knew it was a partisan issue.
I thought CNN was a mouthpiece for the Republicans, but I have revised my opinion. They're just dumb.

3. And that's why there are, believe it or not, |
|
still plenty of republicans who are not at all happy with what the current repubs are doing to the economy and to their party. Too bad more of them don't speak out.
And this whole "saving social security" drivel from the repukes is just a bunch of total bullshit. They don't want to save it, they want to get rid of it altogether. Never mind that the economic and social fabric of the country is such that it would be a total disaster for tens of millions of Americans if that ever happened. They have what they need, so they don't give a shit. Let grandma work at Wal-Mart in her 90's and finally collapse in the aisles, they don't give a shit. They've been trying to get rid of it for 70 years. Selfish, heartless fuckers.

4. I just returned from a business trip |

Had CNN on in my hotel room three mornings in a row, after a month of shunning the TV. I'd watched Desperate Housewives and the odd movie and Olbermann a few times is all. CNN's American Morning struck me as dumb, dumb, dumb. It was so dumb, I can't even remember what it was except that is was basically the same dumb stuff all three mornings. They can't even come up with new dumb stuff.

6. Yes a partisan issue. Some freeper responses to fixing social security |
|
Reform of SS will also do more for family values than almost anything else. The SS system sets young against old, instead of families working together for their future.
---
You cannot support 55 million people with 130 million working individuals. Social security payments are just BIG government welfare to ease the conscience of social liberals at the expense of the working people. It is also the biggest vote-buying scheme in history.
---
Well, the SS sharing agreement that Bush wants with Mexico helps speed along the bankrupcy of the SS system, so yes SS is tied into the illegal debate.
---
SS is going bankrupt because its very nature is to go bankrupt. To keep it solvent will require increasing amounts of energy. That increase will never stop. Get rid of it. If you do it now, you harm less. If you do it later, you harm more.
---
We only thought the 'rat election year methods were disgusting and not in America's interest. Social Security is their god, an idol they created. They will not allow it to be debauched by GOP barbarians. If Iraq doesn't blow up in his face, and Bush pulls off real SS reform, history will remember him as one of our greatest Presidents.

are they well manipulated by their handlers or what? Doh!
I sincerely believe that if their keepers told some of these Freepers that their ears were democrats, they would instantly rip them off and declare it a good move.

Lou Dobbs knows what he is talking about, and makes sense in what he says. The others are the usual postmodern, neoconservative, poorly educated, short-sighted idiots.
