Thomas Frank talks about the widespread support, by both major political parties in the U.S., for free-market economic theories and reads a critical piece he wrote on the topic for the Baffler magazine. Mr. Frank argues that because Republicans run on social issues to influence working-class voters who do not share the party's economic views, Democrats need to begin supporting progressive economic policies and find a way to relate the importance of those policies to voters. Includes Q&A.

1. What's the Matter With Kansas? is a must read
for anyone in the party. I wish I could watch this but I don't have C-Span 2.
It explains a lot about how the Republicans have gained so much ground in the South and Midwest with working class voters. He doesn't talk about Kerry, but it made me realize how much Kerry played into the damaging populist conservative stereotype of liberals.
