"Bowling For Iraqis"
From another board I'm not at liberty to talk about:

I have a really good friend I've known since high school who was stationed not only in Iraq, but in Fallujah during the worst part of the war...

He was talking with me last night at a concert about some of the pranks they played on Iraqi citizens.

First off, it's against Army regulations for them to give out food or water to people, so they would not do that. BUT...

They invented all of these sadistic "games" around this concept, like filling empty food containers with rocks and leaving them out for people, or tying a bottle of water to a string and "fishing for Iraqi's," as they called it.

The one that shocked me even more was "Bowling for Iraqi's," which is where you freeze a bottle of water and then, as you are being chased by hungry/thirsty civilians, you skip one off the sand out of the back of your transport (which apparently they have time to practice and apparently sand is ideal for) and see how many you can hit and if you knock one down, that's a good thing.

I was absolutely shocked. Here, my friend, who I have a great deal of respect for and who knows how I feel about things is telling me this and his only rationale is, "People could get away with anything since Abu Gharib is going on. All the media attention was on that." as if it somehow justified it.

I'm thinking, "Man... no wonder they wanted to kill you."
