ads seen on CBC: Cut energy usage by 10%; Don't forget your flu shot
Watched a prime time film on CBC on Saturday evening which was filling in for HNIC.

Two ads threw a spotlight on Can/Am differences.

1. Global warming is serious business. EVERYONE needs to cut energy usage by at least 10%. Here in the States, ads tell us that our kids won't get their asses kicked in school if we drop them off in a Hummer.

2. Influenza is a killer. The shot won't give you the flu. Get your flu shot. Here in the States, ummm ... we ... ummm ... we don't have flu shots.

1. Haven't you heard?
According to the finest scientists the fossil fuel industry could buy, the question of global warming is still unanswered. Excuse me. I've got to jump im my air-conditioned Suburban and drive four blocks to WalMart and buy a big American flag made in China to hang on the pole in my yard that I mow twice a week, cuz winter's a bit late, so all my no-chin neighbors will know I'm a good American.

2. I don't own an automobile. So I never buy any gasoline.
I keep the furnace in my bedroom turned off at all times. My body heat and blankets keep me warm, even when it's well below freezing outside.

I turn off the light when I leave a room.

I'm a vegetarian, and that saves energy.

I already use so little energy there's no way that I can cut my usage by 10% without reducing my standard of living.

And I have never gotten a flu vaccine. And I have never had the flu. And with the vaccine shortage, I'd rather let the vaccine go to someone who really needs it.

3. Personally, I think those ads are going to make sure that someone
gets their ass kicked in for driving to school in a Hummer. Cute little blonde boy being driven in by young yuppy mom. And what do the school kids look like?

Puhlease.

It's just a matter of time for a kid in a Hummer to get his ass kicked in BECAUSE of that commerical.
