Dean on MTP this morning!
Refusing to attack Kerry's campaign, despite Russ's prompting. Dean was asked if he could have beat Bush and he diplomatically replied that he didn't beat Kerry so that's all moot. Dean also praised Kerry's campaign from a grassroots perspective.

My, he's quite the diplomat these days.

:-)

(I do disagree about Kerry's campaign being ran well from a grassroots perspective, though. However, I do understand why he's taking that position.)

1. Dean said campaign didn't fail because of ideology
Ohio lost because the Reds had 14,000 Ohio folks talking to neighbors instead of importing 14,000 volunteers from out of state.

7. Are you kidding?
First off, the reds didn't win. Secondly, the grass roots effort to get the vote out was huge. The red volunteers seemed to spend a lot of time stealing lawn signs.

2. I really like his comments
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 10:12 AM by Clark2008
regarding getting the Democratic message out and the repetative phrase of calling the Republicans the "borrow and spend, borrow and spend" party. He's also doing well making the point that Dems aren't as much "liberal" as "populist" and that will go a long way to bring in the red-states.

I just hope Dean has learned that he wasn't the ONLY anti-war Democrat in the primaries and to keep his comments as precise as he's doing this morning.

I have said that his fire, his ability to raise money and his ability to recruit would make him an excellent Dem chair. I'm glad the finalists for this seem to be outsiders and not party hacks.

3. More from Dean
"We are really in the best shape we've ever been in" going into an after-election season.

"MoveOn was very, very helpful" during the campaign, but any claim that they own the Democratic Party is "over the top."

15. MoveOns claim that "we" own the party
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 11:35 AM by Hamlette
I read the threads here then I read the email MoveOn sent. I read the email as saying "we" meaning the grass roots. Those of us who were active in MoveOn and ACT and other efforts. Who helped raise so much money online. The "little guy."

Is that just my Pollyannaish reading of the email or are others reading too much into MoveOns claim?

17. Yes, that is what MoveOn meant. It was not over the top at all.
The grassroots is what they meant. I think the Democratic leaders did not read it, just responded to what they were told.

4. And please everyone...
stay past the Dean interview and watch military analyst William Arkin. He always seems to have the right ideas about Iraq (he was also opposed to going into Iraq in the first place as I recall).

6. EXCELLENT!
Dean opened Democratic Party up to pro-life Democrats - "pro-life" meaning that you don't forget about children once they're born.

8. And he pointed out that Demo pro-lifers were totally pro-life
in the sense that they're also anti-Death penalty. (did he also mention anti-war in respect to being pro-life? I got a call at the same time he was talking.)

Personally, I can deal with that type of pro-lifer, because they're usually also pro-choice for everyone else--or at least that's been my experience.

10. Oh yeah
Dean's gotten real quick on the ball for catching those framing traps and avoiding them like a bullfighter in his prime.

12. hehe
Thanks! I've missed you too! (and many, many other people as well)

I'm still around. I just haven't been watching things happen live anymore. My stomach couldn't handle it in the months leading up to the election and right afterwords.

You can always find me in the entertainment groups and news, even when I'm not here that much.

Thanks for missing me. That means a lot in a year in which I've lost a lot of DUers as friends because of this damn election.

:hi:

:loveya:

13. I don't know you but...
I understand exactly what you mean. I had to take a break after the election, too! Especially from fighting ridiculous wars on the aol political boards. :)

16. Key words from the interview.
From the inside or the outside. Will need to check transcript for exact words.

He did a very good job.
