1. I said this in another thread, bears repeating..at least I think so!
If it is demos torching demos, then I have to agree with this picture, both its representation and the believe behind it. I don't think we should "burn" the demos saying this, but we need to be wary of their motives. As far as I am concerned, we know the Rethug point of view...bigotry! I have NO desire to find common ground with that point of view! There was a time that the Rethugs were just conservative. IF that were still true, then I would say "yes" to trying to find common ground. However, they are "hell-bent" (literally, it would seem), on making our country a theocracy and denying the rights of citizens. They are determined to vilify the United States and make her stand alone in the world. They desire to rewrite the Constitution to serve their own needs, and no longer care for "states' rights." They have abandoned common sense spending and plunged this country into debt!

I think we DO understand their point of view, but we sure as hell DO NOT need to find common ground, we NEED to combat ignorance, bigotry, stupidity, and reintroduce logic and reason, as well as compassion!

4. I agree with you.
We need to oppose those evil angry bigots at every possible point. There can be no compromise.

5. all I know is when someone declares war on you, you fight
and you win by any means necessary.

They declared war on us 30 years ago.

They're not the least bit interested in living with us, compromising with us, they're not interested in anything that's for the good of the people or the country, they are interested only in beating us.

Why else would they be for self-destructive things like environmental degredation? That used to be a bipartisan thing, then in 1980 suddenly it was the GOPers against the "tree huggers" and they started ridiculing us and deliberately fucking up the environment for no other reason THAN TO PISS US OFF.

They are despicable fuckwads and should not be dealt with in any civil way. They need to be fought, destroyed, and contained.

6. I took it to be Dems trying to find common ground
with Conservative fundamentalist about to burn them at the stake.

Still not getting it, in other words. Interesting, I must say.

But there is common ground to be had, just not with the social conservatives. There are indeed angry Republicans out there not down with this shit either.

9. I agree
We have to be wary of those reaching for a common ground that involves abandoning historic ideals just to win. Not only do they look weak and unprincipled but our concerns are severly marginalized.

3. Certainly those that are trying to find ways to compromise with the
right wing Repugnants. There is NO common ground between people of principle and sanity and those that support Bush, Cheney, Rove, Norquist, Falwell, O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, and the rest of the right-wing, neo-con fundamentalist fascists. Absolutely nothing is open for compromise between them and us!!!!

10. "Being a moderate, maybe we should throw SOME Jews in the oven..."
"Because I don't trust the radical fringe who want to either
1) throw all the Jews in the oven (right wing)
OR
2) throw none of the Jews in the oven." (left wing)

"Yes, all things in moderation. So the right answer is in the middle.
See? Politics is all about...compromise.
-Compromising your values." (DLC/DNC)

12. that is dark humor! oh how i love it.
it is so apropo.

i honestly am starting to believe this mythical 'vast center' crap is just smoke and mirrors. how can we be a nation 'soo divided' and have 'a vocal centrist majority that wants compromise'? they are polar opposites, how can anyone believe they both exist now? i know we are a nation 'sooo divided' so obviosly the 'compromising vocal centrist majority' must be a big pile of lies. and yet our leaders expect us to lap it up as if it were mud pies and cocoa.

19. that reminds me of
Kerry's logic on taxes:

"Let's not cut taxes for everyone, but lets not balance the budget either."

His position was just as untenable.

7. and these are the guys with the power to start purges?
Wonderful cartoon! It prompts me to think about all the purge threads running around DU. Like the guys about to be burned at the stake actually have the power or inclination to start purging anyone? Purging is for those who actually hold power.

13. Simplism is Bushism
I don't get my politics from cartoons.

We need leadership, and I'll tell you what that means to me. A leader takes us from where we are to where we want to be. So the two keys to leadership are the wisdom to know where one stands and the vision to see a way to get to something better.

Notice it isn't just envisioning utopia and then squawling and bawling like a 9-month-old until the world rushes in with our bobba. You're not fighting and you're not brave just because you make a lot of noise. Your noise signifies nothing. Your courage is cheap.

People who want to understand the opposition are not "idiots and enablers." That's Bush's position on foreign policy isn't it? And that's your position on thinkers in our own party. You are as bad as Bush.

gee, seems like you're the one hurling the insults here.

I'm talking about our democratic party establishment, not the rank and file.

If you want to insult me, go right ahead. YOu're the one who looks like an ass, not me.

20. The problem with taking a simplistic viewpoint is that not all Bush voters
agree with all of Bush's policies. "Understanding" Bush voters doesn't imply compromising.
