Lieberman for Homeland Security!
He'll be a whole lot better than Kerik, Hutchison or the other names being bandied about. And he'll be a better HSA chief than Senator. Ct will elect another Democrat so we won't lose a seat and may end up with a more progressive Dem. I think it would be a win/win as Joe will protect our privacy and constitutional rights more than the others I've heard about.

1. After the next attack, they can say it was the Democrats fault
if Lieberman is head of Dept. of Homeland Security.

5. So you want the likes of Kerik? I want him out of the Senate
And this would be a better place for him. Ct is blue enough to elect a progressive thinking Senator.

10. Maybe as an interim, not sure...
But CT Dems control the house and senate with a veto proof majority. States have different rules. I'm certain a rell appointment wouldn't last past th next election.

27. GOP gov appoints a GOP Senator and don't be too sure
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 10:12 PM by BlueManDude
that a guy like Chris Shays couldn't take that seat when it comes up if he's already the sitting senator. Incumbancy is a powerful tool and believe me they GOP leaders in the senate would be doling out goodies for Shays to bring back home. I'd rather have Joe L. in the Senate than some GOPer anyday. The Homeland Sec job is a joke. No power.

7. If Lieberman is getting out of the business of elected office, he'll do it
Again, as somebody else said, I don't want the colossal failures of the Bush administration to be blamed on a democrat, but I think Lieberman will do it if he's given up on elected office. He'll be HSA chief for awhile then probably an ambassador to somewhere or something like that.

25. This is why Rove always screws us
people can't think more than one step ahead.

Ok, let's say Joe gets the HS position. We may get a more liberal dem in his seat. Nice right?

Now, say another 9/11 style reichstag is orchestrated by bushco. Guess who gets the blame? 24/7 media blitz saying - Lieberman - a DEMOCRAT (that will be noted at all times) - failed the nation on security.

After that we can kiss any chance of winning an election for the next 10 years goodbye. Worth it for a senate seat? Didn't think so.

Just like the ploy of talking about nominating democratic senators to cabinent posistions. Sounds nice... until you realize it would give the republicans a filibuster proof senate.
