The reaction of the crowds outside the courtroom of the peterson trial, people waving at cameras and so on and so forth. This is a prime example of how as a people we place so little value on life. This is why we are stuck in a pointless war, this is why repugs keep winning, THIS is the problem with humanity.
Scott Peterson may be a horrible man, but in no way or how should the state sanction his death. Today justice has failed, and the american people have failed themselves.

2. Why are you surprised? |

I guess I am just very cynical now. The fact that a liar, cheat, and thief could be "elected" to office again has jaded me! This is a culture of death. Look at the people who support the illegal war, support using torture to gain information. Hell, they are willing to sacrifice personal liberties to protect themselves from the "boogieman!" This is a sick society in which we live.

by the idea that people are sickened by anything related to this irrelevant trial enough to start a thread to tell us how sickened they are, when thousands are dying elsewhere.

I touch on your point...if you are not sickened you are not paying attention. I guess my sickness has been deepened today along with my "typical" sickness.

7. hm, his life in jail without the death penalty would be baaaaad...! |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 05:17 PM by eleonora
He'd become someone's girlfriend of the toy boy of an inmate (or a group of inmates)...at least, with the death penalty he's going to have his own jail cell and sort of be kept away from the others who, I bet, are already disappointed he's not going to share space with them lifers...
I'm usually against the death penalty, but in his case, being the pretty boy he is and guilty of the kind of crime he's convicted of, believe me when I say it's probably better for him to be locked away on his own.
As for the people cheering; well, technology has progressed but humanity is basically what it always was...vengeful, I think. The death penalty provides quick satisfaction and we live in a country where people like to be satisfied right away.
