Target Stores under attack yet again...
Just received this email today. My husband works for Target Corporation, so we seem to get every wierd and offensive rumor that is making its way around the internet regarding the stores. He is also a member of the Army National Guard, and I can assure you that Target has one of the most generous benefit packages available for military employees.

Beats Shopping at Target

This sure beats shopping at Target I assume you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up... Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.

Suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.
So I decided to check it out before I sent it forward. I sent the
following email to the Sears Customer Service Department I received this email and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just
become one very good source of advertisement for your store. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item even if it was cheaper at the other store.
Here is their answe to my email......................

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears.
The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends, Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our
military!!!!!!!!!!!

Sears sure beats the French owned Target who won't let the Salvation Army ring their bellsin front of their stores!!!

2. So many red flags...
"French owned" Target? Any backup on that? How much did Sears donate to the RNC/Bush Campaign, etc.? This could be astroturf put out by Sears itself.

I'm no huge fan of Target (big box is big box to me), but I do support their refusal to let the S.A. have bell ringers in front of their stores, the S.A. is a discriminatory group.

3. WalMart has limited the bell ringers too
they don't allow them on weekends...It seems the MSM didn't see fit to announce this as much as the Target story.

4. Sears is very conservative
Sears now owns Lands End. It was Lands End CEO who invited Rudie Guiliani to give a motivational speech to the employees. Speech turned into a Rebublican diatribe.

Target treats their employees well, pays them well, and as big box stores go, a good place to shop.

I'm happy that Sears supports the troops, but personally, I would rather shop at a "blue" store.

5. "French owned Target??"
Target is a publicly owned corporation based out of Minneapolis, MN. My dad was a senior buyer there for 17 years. Jackasses.

6. Sears was just purchased by K-mart. Both are rather red companies.
Besides, Target is a lot more progressive than K-Sears-Mart. They are very involved in local communities and give a ton of money to local schools.

9. Nope. They did, however, make the Forbes list of "America's Most...
Philanthropic Companies" in both 2002 and 2003.

Again, they are one of the most progressive large corporations in the country. They give a higher percentage of their income to charity, schools, etc. than any large corporation in America.

8. Yet another reason to shop at Target
Anything to aggravate the right-wingers.
Not a big fan of Sears anyway. I had to stop there Saturday to pick up a gift card, and a pair of slippers. I had to write separate checks for both because I had to pay for the gift card separately since it isn't taxed. I don't have to do that at Target. Plus, the clerk asked several times if I wanted to put one or both items on a Sears charge card, even after I told her I didn't. I don't even have a Sears charge card, nor do I want one.
I don't think I'll be going back there for quite some time, it's just too irritating.

11. This email has been going around the internet
My version did NOT have the French part.

In addition, Sears AND target gave to the Repugs.

I don't go to either...

12. NBC news did a hit piece on Target tonight
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 07:43 PM by lwfern
Poor salvation army folks losing $9 million because of Target (like target owes them a spot, instead of being grateful they had one the last few years). They interviewed a salvation army guy, then they showed video of people preaching from the pulpit that church members should boycott Target.

Never a word about SA discriminating, nor a statement from Target on their policy against solicitation in general. It was basically nothing more than advertisement for the boycott.

All part of the rightwing corporate religious gangbang; Target is competition for the new Sears-Kmart. I don't shop at either anymore either, but I might write a note to Target in support of the policy anyway.

13. Last night I was telling friends about Sears/Lands End
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 07:48 PM by Straight Shooter
They were astonished because they had no idea of the connection.

Then I suggested they shop online at Target and Costco (our town has no big stores nearby except the evil W-Mart).

I've always had a good feeling about Target. I'm glad I was right! :D

edit: BTW, J.C. Penney is another Repub store and, -- shocking!! -- so is Victoria's secret. That's no surprise, though, because their lingerie catalogues are borderline erotic
