how can i prove to somone that the media is controlled by republicans?
i know that the CEOs of pretty much all of the companies are big bush backers... anyone got any proof of that? a link to a news story would help or a number of how much they donated or something, anything really.

thanks in advance

1. Just point out that the Scott Peterson verdict took priority...
...over the Conyers hearings in Ohio over voter fraud today on all of the cable news channels, C-Span 1 and 2 and I did not see any mention on network news, although at that point I was doing a lot of surfing the news channels between all of their commercials. Also, in a 30 minutes network national news broadcast, the actual news commentary and reposting makes up 14 minutes and 30 seconds. That pretty much should sum up who controls the media. Even PBS was doing it's pledge drive during this critical electoral reporting. It is all about money.

That's the most blatant thing I can think of at the moment.

It's not about individual donations.
They deal in access and power. GE/NBC gives favorable coverage to * and they get further concessions from the FCC and corporation-friendly policies. That's how it works.

Try looking at something like The Nation's online magazine. I'm sure I've read something in there in the past couple of years.

4. Tell them to pay attention!
That's all it takes. It won't convince them as quickly as some well-written article, but it will work eventually.

5. Ask him (or her) who owns NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Sci-Fi, USA...
and Telemundo.

If they feign ignorance, tell them: General Electric. Then ask them if GE's $1.2 billion in Defense Department contracts might affect how they report on this administration and its war.

I've posted that here before, in more than one topic. Fortunately I bookmarked it, too. That column really explains a lot.

13. That left wing source was actually posted on the Drudge Report.
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 09:52 PM by highplainsdem
Drudge was gloating over Michael Moore not being able to get ads for the Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD on network news shows. But that link was there for only a couple of hours, so it must've occurred to Drudge belatedly (or someone pointed out to him) that the column didn't mesh well with the perennial RW ranting point about the "liberal media." (Other stories he posted links to at the same time stayed on his site much longer.) I was able to locate it again, though, and posted it here in the Editorials forum, and sent the link to Buzzflash. It deserved a lot of attention, even though Drudge had changed his mind about it.

8. Last week, many CBS affiliates

pre-empted 60 Minutes for a Billy Graham Revival.

Just so happened 60 Minutes was airing a report on Iraq War deserters.

Now if that doesn't prove the media is right wing biased, I don't know what to tell ya.

20. You could try to find
the percentages of coverage for each issue and its negative and positive opinions/aspects represented. For instance, before the Iraq War, some major channels had less than minutes of anti-war opinion (I heard the worst was one channel, MSNBC I THINK, had less than 30 seconds of anti-war opinion aired). You could probably find the same percentages for other issues as well.

22. If the media were liberal,
we'd hear 24/7 how Shrub was selected, not elected, how he's a deserter, the Slow Boat Liars never would've gotten out of dry dock, how Shrub ran like a bunny on 9/11, they'd question why Condo-sleaza gets a promotion when she's an utter failure, why this nation needs universal health care, why the war in Iraq is wrong, etc.

concerning this administration and ask them (repubs) how much they know about it and if they don't, ask them why not.
