3. Despite his height, I think Mr. Dean could've done a lot better.
He's a decent looking fellow from a very prestigous family. He easily could've done a lot better than Judy, IMO, who I, speaking as a man, think is really unattractive -- skinny, bookish, sheepish personality, the big teeth, stringy hair..

Mr. Dean must've seen something in her that goes beyond what men usually think of as attractive.

4. maybe she's not a beauty queen, but
Obviously she's very smart, and by all accounts a very decent person. I don't know her personally, but in interviews during the primary campaign she seemed very sweet. Maybe we should let Governor Dean manage his personal life for himself.

13. We are being a tad superficial, or sexist aren't we?
My take on the Deans, and I only know what I read, is that they are genuinely not superficial people.

To some people the idea of someone who has the financial wherewithal to make themselves more attractive physically and who chooses not to is rather strange. I personally admire that.

They're an unusual couple. Most political wives are either along for the ride (Laura Bush) or as or more power hungry than their husbands (Hillary Clinton). Judy Dean seems to be happiest persuing her own career. She's clearly not comfortable in the spotlight. She's also apparently secure enough in her relationship to let her husband go gadding off around the country with his legions of supporters and groupies.

It works for them.

I don't know if he'll ever be elected president, I don't know if this country is ready for Dr. Judith Steinberg as first lady much less for Howard Dean as president but wouldn't it be great if as a nation could all get beyond the superficiality.

14. Superficial, yes. Sexist, no.
But human beings tend to be superficial, despite professing the opposite.

She seems to be a decent person, a good mother and wife. I was commenting about her looks strictly from a social, non-political perspective.

23. So "better" by your definition is looks that do not carry over
into the profound commitment of a life-long marriage.

Ya know, with or without plastic surgery, we all look "sorta alike" by the time we hit our 70s. :P

24. What YOU usually think of as attractive
Speaking as another man, I have to say I have always liked the "Bookish" look. I love a woman in glasses!

5. This is a joke right?
Sorry, she's probably very nice but as far as looks go....very
homely woman.I couldn't figure out why she never fixed her hair or anything while he was running for the nomination and she was in the news.

8. Thank you
I think she looked kind of cute in the picture. Of course, if her nose were smaller and her glasses a little more "egghead," and her teeth were a little different, she'd look a lot like myself. Maybe that's why I find her cute...

11. Disagree. Femininity and intelligence aren't mutually exclusive.
I'm an independent, and know many women of various poltical stripes and I couldn't say that there is one particular group that is more beautiful/sexy.

But, if I had to put money on it, I'd think that if some scientific study were done Democratic women would edge out the Republican women. Liberals tend to be very concerned with fashion and style -- just look at Hollywood. The most beautiful women in the world are liberals. That doesn't say anything about the average, though, which I think is probably a wash.

26. Gosh, that reminds me of how often my right wing buddy
would complain about Janet Reno's hair while Clinton was in office. She'd go on ad nausea about such pressing national issues as, "Why doesn't Janet Reno do something with that hair! She doesn't even try to keep herself up."

Right now I'd have two words that would shut her right up:

Dennis Hastert <sp?> Now there's a sexy man! How's this for a visual ---> Dennis in speedo trunks. Arrrrgh! :P

7. No reason to think she isn't
She'e average in the looks dept., which is fine. Being "sexy" is more than looks however, so without knowing her, couldn't really say. Nice smile is a good sign.

21. If you were lying bleeding by the side of the road who'd you rather see?
1. Laura Bush

2. Teresa Heinz Kerry

3. Hillary Rodham Clinton

4. Dr. Judith Steinberg Dean

I thought so. Let's hear it for a political wife who's not a fashion plate, a pawn or a power player.

22. she has the nerd chic thing going on
she needs braces, then she'd be a total hottie:)

Seriously, though she looks very nice, and if she has a great personality, that is the whole game right there. Anything after that is a bonus.

ALthough I don't know that "sexy" is the right word, more like
attractive and intelligent looking, someone you would enjoy hanging
out with. But I never was into bimbos much. So I guess I'm with
you & Howard.
