Congressperson Waters to Challenge Electoral College
Just on live on Randi Rhodes, Cong Waters says she and others will be challenging the Electoral College just as they did in 2000. She specifically mentioned Kerry and said she hoped he would sponsor. Randi suggested Obama. Randi also said "someone has to grow some!"

Go Maxine! We LOVE you!

Now THAT woman is quite something.

2. Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on in Ohio?
Very few DU posts and next to nothing in the mainstream media. When does the Ohio Supreme Court make a ruling?

4. She IS something.
She spoke out loud and clearly during the Haiti coup, too. I listened to her several times on Amy Goodman, when practically nothing appeared on the MSM.

Few reps distinguish themselves from the crowd, but she has, over and over again.

I understand that their goal is to have 5000 signatures by tomorrow evening - they are less than half way there now. Please go and sign!

17. It's close to 2000 now, come on everyone

It is not fair for the African American congresspeople to take all the heat on this issue.

Boxer needs to step up to the plate and so do the rest of them.

28. Done. Thanks for the link. If you don't mind, I'm going to make a new
thread for the link. The count is only up to 2008 and that is hours after the last person said it was just about to 2000.

8. Re Ohio
The Ohio S Ct didn't rule on the TRO, and *co has until Dec 31 to reply to the petition to contest the election. Doubt you'll hear anything from them until then (but ya never know...).

10. I think she's great, saw her speak at my college, but...
I can't believe she still defends King/Drew Hospital like its the most important community giving fixture in Southgate and Watts. That place has done more harm to that community than good, and for no other reason than shear corruption and incompetence. She's not the only one either, Jessie Jackson has also put his reputation on the line for that horrible place too. I hope they realize that just because its a high volume trauma center doesn't exscuse itself from delivering such substandard medical care. The underfunding excuse is another myth too, one of their biggest expenses is money used to settle malpractice lawsuits b/c of incompetent and unqualified doctors and staff. Cook County Hospital in Chicago, and Kings County Hostpial in Brooklyn New York are high volume trauma centers in poor urban neighborhoods and they're problems amount to no where near the astronomical damages that King/Drew Medical Center had done to those poor people.

serious about the changes that need to be done. No hate for Maxine Waters though, just alittle dissapointed, but I'm sure she's got her reasons. I'm glad she's still out there fighting for us.

I don't believe he has been sworn in yet. Until then he has no more power than you or I. I'm curious what angle she plans to take to deny certification. Anyone know?

12. Congresswoman Waters
Thank you Congresswoman Waters. I'm so proud of Maxine.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The members of the Congressional Black Caucus are the conscience of the Democratic Party. They will speak truth to power when no one else does.

I still think it is unforgivable that when they rose in 2000 to challenge the results, they could not get a Senator to sponsor.

Time and again, the members of the Congressional Black Caucus speak with the moral authority that others fail to.

14. It's up to a Senator again...Olbermann thinks it's unlikely
one will challenge! If they don't challenge on the basis of all the crap in that Ohio lawsuit, then you can kiss them all goodbye. No Democratic Senator is worth any respect. Surely there is one in a safe seat in a safe seat who could challenge....if not, I wouldn't blame it if blacks in particular start leaving the party in droves.

I'm beginning to dislike each and everyone of them.

16. Unlikely
I think it is unlikely too.

And it's called political cowardice. The Democratic Senators who will not stand up for free and fair elections are just concerned about their own political viability, and not being viewed as some leftist looney.

Come to think of it, I think we need to shout the phrase "political cowardice" to every single Democratic Senator.

21. I Wish There Were
But I don't think there is. Too many politicians are concerned about their own personal power and interests, not the interests of others.

If they didn't step up in Florida in 2000, they won't do it now.

And it's sad, especially when you had a partisan person at Diebold Inc. (Walden O'Dell) who said in a fundraising letter to Republicans in August 2003 that he wanted to guarantee Ohio's electoral votes for Bush.

Again, it's called political cowardice, something people on Capitol Hill are all too familiar with.

23. Who are the safest Dem Senators?
Which Democratic Senators are the safest? Let's put pressure on them. A Senator from a shaky state should not be made to do this, but if one is in a reliable position, I'd like us to put pressure on them now.

In my state, Mikulski just got reelected. Sarbanes is up in 06, but may be retiring.

That's the other target. Who might retire? Byrd? Actually he may just have the nerve to do it even if he doesn't retire.

Boxer?

Durbin?

Kerry?

Any other names?

25. Wouldn't it be somewhat poetic for Kerry....
If he sat through the numerous congressional speakers, and after the last one complained he jumped up and said he'd sign.

Would probably be one of the biggest moments in US history actually.
