The possibility of a draft…. |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 07:53 PM by indianablue
The possibility of a draft over Iraq is remote at best.
We have plenty of people in the armed forces if you include all the branches, Coast Guard included.
The Pentagon can extend tours from 12 months to 18 or possibly 2 years.
The Pentagon can shorten the turnaround time before next deployment.
The Pentagon can reduce manning levels at US and Foreign bases, or close some all together.
The Pentagon can draw more and more from the IRR, all branches.
The Pentagon can declare permant bases in Iraq so you get 'Stationed' in Iraq like you would Germany or Japan except longer tours perhaps your entire enlistment save for training.
The Pentagon can draw active members from less direct combat services such as Navy and Air Force. They can be Temporarily assigned for Duty (TAD) in Iraq.
Plus people are still joining the armed forces and if the economy slides more will join or rejoin.
Reinstating a draft would be would be very damaging politically for anyone who supports it. It is easier to extract more pain from past and current members of the armed forces than start drafting people.
and of course stop lose.

sorry to be soo frank.
Madison Ave. could sell you a shit sandwich and you'd ask for another.
All these fascists need is another "Pearl Harbor" to gain political approval. Oh, that's already happened with 9/11 you say? Well then, I guess all we need is another 9/11.
Do you trust them?

That laundry list avoids crucial points. If the Economy drops further new recruits will flow in. Without new recruits the Military will effectively bottom out morale. Thus, the great American fighting machine may languish into a shadow of itself. We predicted the Iraq invasion scenario and to think what Bush will do to our defense now is frightening.

6. i'm not worried about a draft |
|
I welcome it...I'm convinced that the more the United States undertakes foreign interventions, the faster the date it will be defeated by its own overextension, the faster the day it is humbled, and the faster the day this nightmare of American manipulation of world politics will be over..
and I'm not worried about personally being drafted...I'll resist, by any measures I have to.
