Landrieu ready to drill of LA and FL in areas under moratorium.
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 11:00 PM by madfloridian
Here we go. Rumblings here in Florida as well.

SNIP..."Landrieu urges more drilling

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., has joined Sens. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., and Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., to ask the Bush administration to consider allowing offshore oil and gas drilling in areas off the California and Florida coasts that are under federally imposed moratoriums. "While we recognize that many areas of the Outer Continental Shelf are under administrative withdrawal and/or congressional moratoria, we are writing to request that the Department of Interior solicit comments from all interested parties on the appropriateness of leasing in both moratoria and non-moratoria areas on the OCS," the three senators said in their letter to the Interior Department. The Minerals Management Service, which sets drilling policy for the Bush administration, is not ready to respond to the letter, a spokesman said. The issue is problematic for President Bush, who supports offshore drilling but is sensitive to the views of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, his brother. Gov. Bush fears that drilling off the Florida coast could damage the state's tourism industry...."

3. You see, people like Landrieu are DINOs
I know you have to be a little more conservative to be viable in Louisiana, but come on, would she lose in 2008 if she decided to oppose this plan.

7. There will be drilling off of Florida
With peak oil at our doorstep, it is just a matter of time before the oil off Florida will have to be drilled. Just a matter of time. Since it is gonna happen anyway, I'd rather see it done without it being a crisis situation that brings it on.

Let them at it, and let's watch 'em like a hawk to see that they do it as perfectly as can be done. If we wait ill we are out of oil everywhere else, and the Gulf is the last place, it will be a real rape job.

Florida, imo, is doomed anyway..... :(
