Six Reservists Court-Martialed For Scrounging Equipment
Soldiers Charged With Theft, Destruction Of Property, Conspiracy

POSTED: 10:19 am EST December 13, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At a time when some U.S. troops in Iraq are complaining they have to scrounge for equipment, six Ohio-based reservists were court-martialed for taking Army vehicles abandoned in Kuwait by other units so they could carry out their own unit's mission to Iraq.

(snip)

What the hell are these kids supposed to do if they aren't even ALLOWED to protect themselves???

1. Cannon fodder
they are probably poor, definately not rich Bush contributors, so Bush doesn't care. Ye cats and little fishes! I could see disciplining them if they were scrounging and selling things on the black market, but this??????? The ones that should be on trial are the war profiteers who have taken millions of dollars and given back nothing.

4. You hit the nail on the head.
My neice is the one who sent this and her husband is over there right now. They're just starting out and don't have two pennies to rub together. She would be there, too, had she not been severely injured during basic training.

I guess it is were you take it from that counts. I can not figure out this GOP any how. They just can not seem to run one darn thing right. Every thing Bush gets near turns to shit.It is just like the businesses he ran.

5. aren't even ALLOWED to protect themselves???
Birt, a former chief warrant officer, and the others were charged with theft, destruction of Army property and conspiracy to cover up their crimes.

The conspiracy is always worst than the crime.

BTW, this story is not about them protecting themselves. It is about them doing trying to do their jobs.

Last week, the military said it would not court-martial any of 23 other Army reservists who refused a mission transporting fuel along a dangerous road in Iraq, complaining that their vehicles in poor condition and did not have armor.

The safety of our troops is paramount, but where in this story are they not allowed to protect themselves.

Chimpy and Rumhead should be beaten over the head with some amour plating for failure to protect the troops, but I fail to see what this story has to do with that.

6. I think the issue is this...
"Instead of taking the trucks back to their rightful owners, the first thing was erasing the identity marks and dumping them off at bases," Wicker said. "They destroyed it. They did the enemy's job. ... Those trucks could be used for other units." ...

"Taking the trucks in my mind was not the worst thing they did," Wicker said from Fort Hood, Texas, where he is now with the Army's 13th Corps Support Command.
