They are young. Give them time to become themselves. I would say that becoming a teacher in an inner-city public school is a good thing. Let's wait and see what she does on her own.

40. I am living proof that the children don't have to be like the parents. |
|
My grandfather believed, and tried to teach me, that blacks (He used the N word.) were a kind of money that only looked like people.
My father was racist. During the 60s he believed that the solution for the race marches was to machine gun the marchers. We had horrible screaming arguements in those days.
I believe in the words of the Declaration of Independence - "...all men are created equal..." and try to pratice it.
You are allowing your hatred for W to lead you into injustice. I believe that a progressive gives individuals the chance to prove themselves. And in the case of young people, even the chance to make a few mistakes and to learn from them.
I stand by what I have said. Let's wait and see, and judge them by what they do.

There is no science, God created the world. There is no biology. We don't mess with God's creations. We don't do chemistry or research.
okay now let's talk about history - as I see it from my family point of view corporations are the great salvation of all countries and when the people try to over run them and claim their rights, you have destitution.
Next lets cover English - this is so important as my dad never mastered basic English...
Then let's do math - I come from 3 generations of people who couldn't do math. Don't worry I can do addition and multiplication as long as it's not applied to statistics or budgets.

Let's let them grow up and mature. I could care less what partying they do, they're young. Chelsea partied, the Bush twins party, the Reagan kids partied and hell I bet the Kerry girls partied at some point too. We almost all do.
Being young is all about irresponsiblity. The only time I think that we shouldn't give them a pass is when irresponsibility turns into murder, ala good ol' Laura.

Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 12:22 PM by rhyfeddu
Whether you've done anything heinous or not? (Except be born in the wrong family?)
Bush is the elected official - he's the legitimate target to attack for policy and presidential ass-holeness. Yes, the twins showed up to wave and crack (bad) jokes during the campaign - did we really expect them to go rogue and come out Dem?? He's an idiot, but he's their DAD.
I'm just saying its classier, and dare I say fairer, to not viciously practice guilt by association to anyone who bears the same name, especially offspring...until they do there own heinous act against the people, and not just the beer bottle...(I would include Mary Cheney on the former).
I'm not saying, either, that the twins are stellar people. I don't know, I've never met them. But neither have you.
And who's whining? :P
EDIT: for directing part of answer to the wrong person! LOL

49. No, I'm not saying turn 18 and draw fire. I'm saying a 22 year old who |
|
enters politics (presidential campaigning being the ultimate level) should be unsurprised to draw criticism. However, a 12 year old who happens to live in the White House SHOULD expect privacy.
I don't know about you but I didn't expect them to "go rogue and come out Dem", but they did say before the campaign that they would NOT be on the trail and in fact Jenna had announced taking a teaching job in NYC. She, at least, made a conscious decision to blow that off and tool around with dad. Now I completely understand supporting your own father wholeheartedly, that doesn't mean her father's NOT an asshole, and certainly doesn't releive her of facing criticism. There is also no need for "guilt by association" since her/their actions speak for themselves. They're trailer trash bona fides are supplied by their own conduct, their father's faults notwithstanding.

Well, I guess if "trailer trash" is just a state of mind...tho' I think thats an insult to trailer dwellers, myself.
And I still think their crimes:
1) Being born a Bush
2) Being alleged lushes and "loose women" (ie: young adults)
3) Being spoiled children of privilege
4) Re-neging on NOT campaigning (aggressive flip-flopping!)
5) Telling really lame jokes
6) Liking said Dad, regardless
...does not warrant the raking over the coals, "evil spawn of Satan" hysterical spiel reflected in this thread. Its out of proportion. And seems petty.

Do I have details of tainted Democratic dynasties? Not really, tho' I've read Joe Kennedy wasn't lily-white in his business dealings. I don't think that negates the good work his political family has done, but its an example. I don't know how anybody could be in politics and not be compromised to SOME extent. I fear its the nature of the beast. I believe its probably naive to think otherwise, sadly.
But, back to the point of this thread, just how does it promote the Dem party by wasting time sniping at Bush's offspring? How does this further our cause? How is this worthy of us or our time? Just wonderin'...

I believe this is just another political move to mold her into her grandmother's image. She, like her mother and grandmother will play susie homemaker until she marries a millionaire who will then run for some political office.
But hey, I might be completely wrong. If she is doing it for good reasons, more power to her and I wish her well.

It's a magnet school that I got to visit once when I went to a conference for foundations and non-profit giving in DC. It was only the third year that it was in existance, at the time. (This conference was 7 years ago, give or take a year or two.) They were a really interesting charter school, and it seemed as though their experimental educational system would do wonders in DC.
I'm actually surprised that a Bush girl would get a job there.
