Just got approved for a Shell Oil card, online.
Woohoo! No more Chevron gas for my vehicles!!!

Old news here, I'm sure, but Shell Oil is the only big oil company that gives more to Dems than to Repukes. So, I went online and filled out their instant credit app. I think everyone must be approved for an initial $300 credit limit because it took only seconds to get approval, after I hit the submit button.

Here's the link: http://www.shell.com/home/us-en/html/iwgen/shell_for_motorists/cards/shell_credit/app_shellcreditcard.html

3. Yep, I buy 99% of my gas at Shell.
It's a few pennies a gallon more than Chevron, but I figure it comes back to me in a different way.

4. About Shell...watch your gas gauge...
Their BAD GAS fried mine, to the tune of $900. Google Shell gasoline and gauge. The problem has been widespread in the south.

I don't use Shell any longer.

5. From what I read, it was an isolated case of too much sulfur in the gas...
...sold by a single refinery to Shell and Texaco stations, in the South--bad juju but not an ongoing problem.

6. Bad gas happens occasionally
In 2001, Mobil, Citgo, BP Amoco, Marathon, Speedway, SuperAmerica and U.S. Oil sold some bad gas - and Shell was one of the stations that wasn't affected in that incident. http://www.jsonline.com/traffic/news/may01/gas04050301a.asp

On a side note, while reading about that, I found out that Texaco is a subsidiary of Shell, so I guess that opens a second option for me.

7. i've been out of the loop recently, but
in college, I boycotted Shell for their abuses in the Nigerian oilfields against the Ogoni people (google Ogoni, Ken Sara Wiwa, or Wole Soyinka) and their support for Gen Abacha. I understand that the political situation has changed there, but I haven't really followed up on the situation. Out of habit, I don't go to Shell. Anyone know what their record over there is now? Have they stopped forced resettlements, assassinations, exploitation, and slash and burn drilling?

10. The problem is that all of the major oil companies are...
...guilty of having contibuted, in some manner, to atrocities in developing countries. Given that fact and given the fact that we have to buy gas, if we drive cars, it's probably important to know that Shell is the leader, among the oil companies, in corporate political contributions to Democrats.

I'm also told that Citgo is owned by the government of Venezuela and proceeds go to the needs of Venezuela's people, so that might be an alternative for you. Around here, all of the 7-11s sell Citgo gas. Mystik stations also sell it.
