I NEVER say the "Pledge of Allegiance" |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 09:11 AM by Tyler Durden
When "trapped" by public bullshit these days I DO say:
"I plead alignment to the flakes of the untitled snakes of a merry cow. "And to the Repuplicans, for which they scam, "One nacho, underpants, invisible, with licorice and jugs of wine for owls."
Matt Groening may actually BE god, or maybe it's Tom Tomorrow; I can't be sure.
"The flag is a Symbol, and I believe symbols are for the 'Symbol-Minded." by George Carlin, who may ALSO be god, but then I always liked Pantheism, so maybe they are the New Trinity.
On edit: forgot "invisible." PLEASE don't smite me, Saint Matt!

1. It's Groening in "Life is Helll" - love that one! |
|
The Pledge always makes me feel a bit creepy. I've never been able to quite put my finger on the precise reason but it does.

We would go to games, but she steadfastly refused to rise for the National Anthem. Good thing we were in a Blue State........
She has since moved, permanently, to Ireland.........

5. there were some religious children in my grade school who would not say it |
|
The teacher made a point of telling the class that they would not say the pledge of allegiance, and that we were not to tease them about it. I recall they were Jehovah's Witnesses. When reagan was presnot, I made a point of not pledging or standing up for the national anthem. That took nerve.

7. My 11 year old lip-synchs it, and simply refuses the Texas Pledge... |
|
Yes, we have a pledge to the Texas flag that they do immediately after the regular Pledge but before the "moment of silence".
Since we're transplants from Chicago, she would probably pledge to the Cubs flag, if asked.

8. Haven't said it, or sung the anthem, since 1965. |

The civil rights movement and the Vietnam horror cured me of patriotism.

9. I will still say the pledge, I just substitute "One nation... |
|
under educated" for One nation under God.
