Had a freeper's car towed.
I live near Wrigley Field in Chicago where parking is at a premium. Often, I will come home to find a car in the parking spot that I own. Being a nice guy, I will usually honk my horn to try to alert the driver as most times it is someone just "stopping by" one of my neighbors. Sometimes, I will park on the street or in one of my building's extra spots. Worse case, if there is no additional parking, I will block them in and make their life a little less convenient when it comes time for them to leave.

Well, imagine my pleasure when I pulled in behind the truck to block it in(after trying option one and two) and noticed a BUSH/CHENEY '04
sticker on the bumper.

Needless to say, I couldn't dial the phone quick enough to call the towing company. Now he gets to spend $150 dollars and an very unpleasant trip to the towing company, "E&T Towing(formerly known as The Lincoln Park Pirates)".

To make matters worse, the driver came out while the truck was dragging, by chain, his truck out of the spot to line it up for the tow-truck. I thought at this point the tow-truck driver would take his bribe to let him off the hook and be done with it. I saw the owner hand something to the tow man and thought it was a bribe. NO, the idiot handed him his keys so the tow-truck driver could line the truck up for a better grab on his truck. What a frickin idiot. He had the opportunity to escape but he let the guy get him. The tow-truck drivers can be very intimidating but this guy was an idiot.

2. Chicago tow drivers are notoriously unforgiving
but are very willing to accept a bribe to save you the time and effort to get your car out of the tow lot.

Good on you!

35. Bribe? Or is it a downpayment on services NOT rendered?

38. It's a bribe.
I watched them do their dirty work several years ago while camping out overnight to get Grateful Dead tickets. We were waiting in front of a Sportmart and some people made the mistake of parking in the lot in violation of the signs.

My friends and I tried to warn some people but they didn't listen. At about 3 in the morning, when half the crowd was asleep, the trucks creeped in, lights off and moving slow as not to alert the people. By the time we yelled warnings to the folks they had four or five cars on the hook. It was quite a sight. They snuck in like sharks.

The people fortunate enough to have cash on them managed to get off with I think a fifty dollar bribe. This was circa 86?

3. To me, way, hey, tow them away,
The Lincoln Park Pirates are we,
From Wilmette to Gary, there's nothin' so hairy
And we always collect our fee!

So it's way, hey, tow 'em away,
We plunder the streets of your town,
Be it Edsel or Chevy, there's no car too heavy,
And no one can make us shut down.

Love that song. Reminds me of th '79 blizzard when they were towing everything that wasn't bolted down, parked illegally or not.

A couple years ago, one of their drivers got caught "moving" legally parked cars in to private lots, taking their picture and towing them away.

These guys are brutal. Every once in a while all the tow-warning signs in the alley on all the buildings will mysteriously disappear and re-appear with a different companies signs. I made a call once to inquire and within an hour they were all replaced with E&T signs.

31. Love that song
Went to school at University of Chicago and loved that song. I didn't have a car but one of my roommates did and she ran afoul of the Lincoln Park Pirates one night. Had to bribe them $50, which back in 1974 was a good chunk of change.

6. Okay, I don't have much towing experience but
if you happen to be present when your car is getting towed, why can't you pay the guy what you would have to pay at the impound lot anyway and save the hassle of it being towed? Is that supposed to be additional punishment to go down to impound to get it? Or do they not trust the tow-truck drivers to collect the fees? Since y'all are discussing bribes, I suspect it is the latter.

9. That's the "Bribe"
The drivers are not set up to take the cash and will tell you so. Generally, you need to kick in additional cash for the privelage of not going down to get it out of the impound lot.

So if the tow fee is $150, you give the driver $200 to not tow your car. He pockets the extra bucks to save you the hassle, otherwise he's hooking up and towing it off.

8. SATIRE I just punched a Freeper
I saw this freeper--normally I'm a pretty forgiving fellow. I try to get along, but I saw him, and I figured "what the hell." So I punched him in the face, and took off. I couldn't believe how surprised he was that I had punched him in the face. Stupid freeper.

I obviously didn't do the above (hence the big SATIRE sign), but based on what i've been reading, why not? How much joy do we need to take at pissing on Conservatives?

10. The joy is not so much in pissing on coservatives
it's pissing on conservatives who think their talk of "morals" and "values" apply to everybody but them.

The guy who parked in the OP's space was STEALING. It costs a lot of money to pay for a permanent parking space in Wrigleyville. I know for a fact it does becuase I lived within blocks of where this happened!

So this asshole was STEALING plain and simple. Generally the OP is a forgiving guy, but in this instance, he chose to ENFORCE the law rather than look the other way.

It was his property that was stolen by this "moral upright" conservative. The joy is watching that fucker get his comeuppance.

He has a right to do whatever he wants--i'm not questining his rights--But he didn't know this guy--he didn't know what his views were. All he knew was that he saw a sticker.

14. He has a right to be forgiving to whomever he chooses
It's HIS property that was violated. As the owner he can be picky and choosy about whomsoever he wants to loan his property to.

In this case, he chose not to loan his property to this person.

Now you're arguing to take away ownership rights!

15. I know he was parked on my private property and, by the
way, he was also taking up two spots(forgot to mention that).

I know he ignored me honking my horn for ten minutes but managed to come out when the tow-truck arrived.
+
I know he ignored a huge warning sign right in front of his nose.
+
I know he had a B/C '04 sticker.

Ignorant-stupid-freeper.

It's impossible to "know" everything but sometimes you have to take a guess.

20. I apologize
I didn't realize you had tried honking--that does put it in a different light--I read it you had immediately called for the tow truck after seeing his sign.

I still think it's bad karma for us to be so pleased about hurting who we assume are freepers--this is hardly the first post in that vein, but I do apologize for misreading your remarks earlier.

Punching someone is very illegal and "immoral". Try a different analogy.

Sorry, but I don't consider them Republicans. I consider them "collaborators" and they will get no breaks from me.

24. Thankyou thank you thank YOU!
These 'morans' are not Republicans, they are accomplices to the hijacking of my party!

I'm amused and concerned that this person handed their keys to the tow truck driver as easily as they handed over their mind, spirit, and liberty to this corrupt administration.

Thankyou for posting this - I for one can't stand idiots who buy huge vehicles and don't have the decency to park them properly... let alone learn to drive them.

It's in the ten commandments! Thou shalt not park whilst a stupid freeper! I saw it in Alabama.

I'll admit that I called the cops on my fundie neighbor's holiday party next door because it was too loud. They came and it was over in about 15 minutes. BWAHAHAHAHAHAA

Fuck the GOP and conservatives.

IIRC, that parking lot is too close to Wrigley Field to allow somebody to flagrantly park there for as long as 12 seconds.

23. That is a whole different story. Don't get me started.
Our Mayor/Dictator Daley has the boot squads working overtime to fill his coffers.

Between the Sunday parking meter squads, the cameras on stoplights and the un-constitutional entering of private property to enforce city stickers I'm beginning to feel like he thinks of the citizens of Chicago as walking, breathing fine-bots.

You can get your nipple pierced, pick out a nice nipple ring at the Alley and then get yourself a crueller in about 30 minutes and never have to walk farther than 30 paces.

26. Here's an idea
if you have a particularly obnoxious freeper that you know parks often at a particular spot (not at home).

Knowing this person is going to be there, call a towing company and tell them that this car has been parked there for several days now (don't do it on a day when the snow would give away the lie). Tell them that you want it towed away . . .
