Shell Gas Stations going Solar to save the environment.
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 10:02 PM by alexisfree
Looks like all shells will be going Solar. They will supply their own power from solar cells. I took this with my camera phone.,...My husband talked to the manager and she said all shells will be implementing solar panels. We then drove around from Citrus Heights, Sacramento, Rancho Cordova and sure enough they are starting to place panels on the shell stations we saw...Just look up in the sky on the roof. I was impressed. I told my husband from now on we pour gas at shell..

wish my car can run on cooking oil.....

8. Well, I feel smug
I only have one gas card - and it's a Shell.

Yeah! I was doing good and didn't know it. :) Thanks for posting this. I'll have to look for these new stations. I've noticed they're renovating one down the street - bet that's what they're doing to it.

3. A hundred years from now...
that's going to be a item of goofy historical trivia for people to laugh about. Provided anybody's around.

6. BP has been doing that in Ohio for about five years.
We don't buy gas there, but all the new stores they've put in here have had solar panels over the pumps. We actually buy Shell anyway, because of all the outlets available here (I don't have any idea where the nearest Citgo is), they actually do seem to do more than pay lip service to environmental responsibility. Going solar is good news -- one more reason not to be sorry to fill up there.

11. Not surprising about BP...
They bought Solarex a few years back, I don't think quite 5 yet. At the time I think SOlarex was the top US manufacturer of solar cells. Now called BP Solar.

13. Glad to hear this.
Its a nice start, as well as smart for an oil company to make some effective changes and see things more long term.

If more of us make a point to use Shell, at some point other companies will need to follow suit start implementing positive changes like Shell.

14. Gas stations putting up solar panels is like the Auschwitz canteen
adopting a kosher menu. The ultimate in pure, bloody hypocrisy. Satire is almost impossible on this.

For those of you about to yell "how can you compare this to the Holocaust", I would say you're quite right. Global warming can't be compared to the holocaust. It risks being far, far, far worse than that.

16. Pigeons have covered a local solar installation in poop
strangly enough just on the panels that are installed over the pumps. There is a nearby panel installation on a rooftop that they ignore.

I swear to god this is true.

BTW, I find it bizarre that my local county jail and several gas stations are solar powered but not a single school.

This is a weird planet

that tell us all how Shell is protecting the planet...unless you live anywhere near a refinery/drill, particularly if you happen to be Ogoni.

I'll have to look at the roof the next time I pass by there.

18. the person in the car front and center in your pic
the person in the car front and center in your pic could be a little more patriotic. i mean come on! a tiny little ribbon sticker in the window, and driving a midsize car! what the hell are they thinking! they need an excursion with four or five of the full size ribbon stickers.

really though, i'm making it a point from now on to buy shell gas, even though it costs more.
