Little Juliana, sweet girl born "without a face" needs help. |

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/health/news-article.aspx?storyid=29341Another poster mentioned this story yesterday, but it seems they are trying to raise money for this family, and I can't think of anyone more deserving of help. The video was pretty heartbreaking. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/health/news-article.aspx?storyid=28372Donation link: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/health/news-article.aspx?storyid=29341

1. uh ... does she really not have a face? |
|
I don't know if I can handle seeing that.
Could you perhaps describe it for those of us who don't want to see this?

2. I saw her a few days ago |

Really horrific. If you've got qualms, then you don't want to look.

3. Well, there are no graphic photos in the article. |
|
And the video, very blurry, shows a little girl playing and hugging her parents, but she has a very badly deformed face. She has had 15 surgeries to create a semblance of a face. They showed her post-natal photos, but they are pretty hared to make out in the blurry video.
The poor kid has possibly 30 more surgeries to go.
It's up to your discretion if you want to look or not. I found it more touching, heartbreaking and sad than gross or anything like that, but everyone reacts differently to these things.

4. Treacher-Collins Syndrome |

This birth defect is actually more common than you might think. The bones in the face fail to form correctly.
Their intelligence is not impaired.

I'll pass the word.. I haven't read the articles/links. So without a face, does that mean she has no mouth, eyes, nose, etc.. How does she eat? This is sad..:-(

8. When she was born, she had none. Her eyes were covered by her skin. |
|
Apparently, the doctors have opened eyelids so she can see(?), a hole of sorts for a mouth, and nostrils. But they are essentially using a series of bone grafts to make a face from scratch.

12. She's sorta cute-ish. Her face is temporarily out of order but if you |
|
watch the video you can see she's a lovey baby.
