DON'T MISS MOYER'S FAREWELL TONIGHT ON NOW !! Gonna be a doozie!
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 07:25 AM by Dover
From what this article says, it sounds like Moyers is going out with guns blazing. Don't miss it!

...A day after the telephone interview from his Manhattan production
studio, he sent a draft by e-mail of his final remarks on "Now."
(The program's new host will be David Brancaccio, its current co-host, a former host of "Marketplace" on public radio and a man with a modern irony that Mr. Moyers never managed to master.) In the note that accompanied the draft, Mr. Moyers continued to circle like a warplane, pumping round after round into its intended targets.

"I learned the hard way an old lesson that the greatest moments in the history of the press came not when journalists made common cause with the state but when they stood fearlessly independent of it," he said. "Now we have those megamedia companies that won't speak truth to power and an ideological media that willingly lies for power. Scary!"

In the uninflected medium of e-mail Mr. Moyers's departing exclamation, not couched in his just-us-folks Texas delivery, comes through loud and clear.

3. What are his future plans?
Since he is only 70 and posses an extraordinary knowledgeable insight into our flawed mass media and corrupt government institutions his voice needs to heard in whatever forum he may choose. He is a throwback to a time of trustworthy and diligent investigative journalism that is now only a rare deviation in the indiscriminate corporate profiteering of our main stream media. We cannot afford to lose this distress signal of light in our ever darkening republic.

5. again . . . he should be drafted by progressives . . .
to serve as a spokesman/philospher/leader of the emerging progressive majority . . . he's the only journalist telling it like it is vis-a-vis the corporate takeover of the government and the country . . .

10. Don't worry. Brancaccio is Moyers' hand picked replacement.
I trust we'll see good things from him.

11. Yes I'm sure that's true....but NO ONE can fill Bill's shoes...the one and
ONLY. I can't imagine that his book on LBJ is as important as the work he does on NOW. I look forward to his future documentaries and will devour them like some starving person.

15. Bill Moyers rocks!
He's just pounding on the right-wing media, especially Hannity and O'Reilly. But hearing this... I truly realize now why Kerry lost. How do you compete with overwhelming partisan media outlets that care nothing about the facts? "Political propaganda masquerading as news." This is a great show...

17. Hitler reference
Check the transcript when it becomes available. On tonight's show Moyers compared the Bush Regime to Hitler. It was in the beginning of the show and he phrased it as only Moyers can.
