Democratic memes
I would like to start a discussion about various ideas and try to come to some sort of an idea on how to make the notion into a meme that will actually propagate. (For a discussion on memes see http://www.memecentral.com/)

George Lakoff has suggested some wonderful memes;
When anyone mentions trial lawyer say public protection attorney. They are our last line of defense against corporations.
The moral economy is another.

Here is something I recently thought about. I always thought that the congress was suppose to deliberate laws and work toward a consensus. To try and find weakness is laws and work to fill those gaps. To find out if the law has a plan that really makes sense. To understand the lasting effects of a law. To do all of these things before they actually pass a law. It is a way to prevent the "tyranny of the majority" A theme that all the founding fathers were clearly worried about. However, in right now, this is not happening. Almost immediately after a law is thought, it is past. There are no real deliberations happening in congress. Congress is in runaway mode and I just think it is going to get worse when the next session starts. How do you frame this idea to penetrate the civic discourse? To read the masses?

Patiences is a value.
Stop the runway congress.

We need some examples of bad legislation that has been past in haste and has had negative effects on average people. Medicare reform? Anything else.

3. Been some changes recently
We now have "groups", essentially forums on whatever. If you can get 10 people with a star to agree, you can start a group.

I recommend looking through the new categories on the side - politics forums, non political/issues forums, and groups. Plus the archived/leftover forums.

4. the New Populist Majority is my favorite . . .
suggests that

a) it's a new approach;

b) it's populist, i.e. for the people and against the corporations; and

c) we're the majority, i.e. there's more of us than there are of them . . .
