Can someone explain to me what Rumsfeld did?
I acutally had the oppertunity to interview Senator Chuck Hagel today who has been quite critical of Rumsfeld for this, I get the basic story that he basically was condescending and very rude to a soldier. I am pleased that a good many republican senators are calling for him to step down.

4. RumsFAILed lied to the soldiers
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 05:18 PM by Tempest
RumsFAILed claimed the military was already increasing production of armored vehicles.

The company who makes the vehicles said there were no such increase in orders and the company had capacity to increase production, but the Pentagon hadn't requested additional vehicles.

Remarkably, just a few days later, $1.5 billion was approved by Congress and the order was placed with the company for the additional vehicles.

Also remarkably, just a few days later, the company the soldier belonged to received all the armored vehicles they needed.

5. 7 months after being asked about armor
There was another 'town hall' style meeting with the troops this spring. A question about body and vehicle armor. Said the same thing then, it was a question of capacity.

Bullshitx2

They want to fire Rummy for being rude to a soldier, but not for lying, under-manning or under-equipping a bogus war, or endorsing torturing people?

8. Actually Hagel has issues with the undermanning of the military
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 05:23 PM by JohnKleeb
I can't speak for any republican senator but thats what I got out of Hagel today. He also said he endorsed a bill with Senator Reed a Rhode Island democrat to increase the size of the military but it met with a lot of opposition. About Abu Ghraib? he didn't mention that.

9. It's what Rummy DID'NT DO
Rummy followed the policy instructions of PNAC - Project for a New American Century- that anticipated a 'cakewalk' in the Iraq war and forgot about the possibility of an insurgency/occupation. The London based Intnl Institute for Strategic Studies estimated 500K troops would be needed for an Iraq war and occupation...Even daddy Bush and Scowcroft in their book didn't want to invade/occupy because it would require too many troops (the 1991 war planners estimated 400K back then)...

Then to have Shinseki and the marine corp gen Zinni all say this war was 'wrong war, wrong place, wrong time' (Zinni's quote, not Kerry btw), well, when Rummy and the rest of them fob off the blame...It makes me sick.

And the Commander In Chief doesn't know any better either.

11. War Crimes are shoved under filthy, bloody rug.
Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graihib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act. Rumsfeld also admitted to signing orders for tougher interogation methods which violated the Geneva Conventions.

Rumfailed has commited at least three violations of the Geneva Convention thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also proscecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

Q: Senator Jack Reed (Dem, RI): "If you were shown
a video of a United States Marine or an American
citizen in control of a foreign power, in a cell block,
naked with a bag over their head, squatting with their
arms uplifted for 45 minutes, would you describe that
as a good interrogation technique or a violation of
the Geneva Convention?"

A: Marine Gen. Peter Pace, the vice chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff: "I would describe it as a violation."

A: Paul D. Wolfowitz, the deputy secretary of defense: "What
you've described to me sounds to me like a violation of the
Geneva Convention."
