Maybe I'm just too cynical, but I have a hard time believing that the upcoming Iraq "election" will be something other than a dog and pony show.

Does anyone think that someone who isn't a U.S. puppet will actually win?

Were you paying any attention to Afghanistan?

4. I agree completely.
The "new, democratically-chosen" government probably had to be reminded not to use their new business cards and stationery until after the election.

6. Allawi has been declared the frontrunner.
The new Iraq Democracy shall be established and the Occupation will be declared as being over. The U.S. will retain 14 Military bases in Iraq to defend the Democratic Govt. of Iraq. Any opposition to this anywhere will be considered treason.

5. Can you think of any countries where the US doesn't interfere?
If I remember correctly...the CIA's very first job was to interfere with elections in Italy to make sure the communists didn't get elected.

7. It doesn't really need to be rigged.
As long as there's still a U.S. military presence, elections are meaningless.

12. Rigged or not, it's already meaningless.
There's absolutely no way they can run a truly representative election under these conditions. There are whole areas of the country that are not under the current government's control. Even in the areas that are supposed to be under control, the risk of violence is still so high for ANYONE seen to be cooperating with the interim government that I can only imagine there will be almost zero turnout.

Since the entire thing is a bust from the get-go, I think rigging it would be almost superfluous. They'll probably just tell people to stay home and they'll let them know who they voted for. It'd be safer for them, and just as legitimate.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

13. It has already been held and the vote tally stored under the
white house porch in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar.

and the Great Carnack says:
bush's appointed interim president wins in a landslide!
