Christmas and Iraq
Last year at this time...we were still pretty innocent about Iraq - comparatively - the weapons and supply problems - the length of time we would be there - the real reasons for busting in. During this year - we've learned a heck of a lot of truths.

I can't get into Christmas. It's not just the deaths - it's the loss of expectations about the future that the injured have to overcome - if they can.

It's all about the Iraqi people...I want to ask the old stand by - what did those poor people do to deserve us. Their...Our...poor, poor children.

The callousness. The barbarian acts in the first four years of the 21st century - generated by a few in the U.S.

Hurting from the realization that we are leaders in war instead of peace........

Hurting from the realization that we just don't want peace with Moslems.

Hurting from the realization that pnac and the cabal are twins with Israel............

Is anyone out there finding some peace of mind from some book or author?

If someone recommends the old or new testaments, I will have to say No, but thank you. There is something faulty with its writings or interpretations that so many of those who read it support war.

3. Yes, it hurts. All your points are valid
We also have over 900 American kids with the loss of a parent due to Bush's war.

Christ was not a popular person when he lived. He did not get the approval of the conservative status-quo. He believed in taking care of the less fortunate, the sinners, the little ones.

There is nothing wrong in Christ's will and purpose other than it has been hijacked by right-wingers.

4. I know what you mean
I started reading a book I have on Paganism. It's interesting - but probably not me.

I have a book by the Dalai Lama on happiness that might help.

I suppose the election and all has a lot to do with it. Like you say - less to hope for. (Unless we get a successful lawsuit).

6. the sky is falling
i'm not ugandan, but we could meet in washington. 30% of the 50% who oppose bush protesting the inaug might get (RE)- action quicker than "woe iz we" thinking

5. This is the first year I haven't thrown myself into Christmas.
The Holidays (yes, O'Falafel, I said "Holidays") are a big deal to me, and usually I really get into it. But this year, I just can't, not when I'm aware of the evil being perpetrated by our "leaders," evil for which I, by virtue of my citizenship alone, am at least partially responsible. It just isn't as joyous anymore.
