Draft only from red states
Sound fair? Seems only fair to me. This should've been a campaign topic.

The question is not will there be a draft, but will they be able to roll it out before the country goes financially bankrupt. Moral bankruptcy appears to have been achieved.

2. NOT fair
because there are plenty of people in red states that voted for Kerry
AND
there are plenty of people in blue states that voted for Bush.

5. Of course.
The whole red/blue state thing is ridiculous, and seems to be being used to further divide us. Yet, putting the draft in this perspective places the responsibilty where it belongs for our misleadership.

27. Disagree. I'm in Florida and I voted for Kerry, as did my son
who is 19. He even worked locally for Kerry. Why should he suffer? Btw, I told my kids that since my husband spent 23 yrs. in the Navy and I spent 8 yrs., we have done our time for this family. For a while anyways.

3. No draft soon (I think)
I still don't see a draft in the near future. The Air Force is still 20,000 + over authorized end strength numbers. They have not given out a monthly "goal" or quota to recruiters since April. Latest estimates say Air Force recruiters won't see a goal until FY06. The Navy is also not having any trouble making it's quota. It's the Army (AD, Guard, and Reserves) that are suffering. There are many ways to alleviate this shortage before resorting to a draft. Raising initial enlistment bonuses, transferring some traditional Army jobs to the Air Force (this has already started with convoy duties), offering Army enlistments to troops forced out of AF and Navy because of over manning, and privatizing more base level support positions. No one I have ever spoken to on active duty wants to see a draft.

6. Tell that to the overextended, and overextended again, troops.
Nobody WANTS to see a draft. Nothing seems to stand in the way of the Bush "vision". He has capital, and he plans on spending it.

for another year or two. But of course anything could change and we know how Bush loves to *gasps* flipflop on things. Plus I think they're doing okay now calling up people.

12. hey! I'm in a red state.
you guys always slam red states and talk about blue states seperating from red states but don't forget that half of the country is being held hostage in a red state. Don't plan anything that leaves us behind. Draft only republicans if you want but there is still a lot of blue in those red states.

17. The sick irony here is that most of the volunteer military......
....is from red states. I can't recall too many guys I've met from Ft Lewis who didn't have southern accents.

And probably the main reason most of them sign up is because it's their only shot at a job and/or education, thanks to what Junior has done to the economy.

Another case of the brainwashed Busheep voting their noses off to spite their face.

18. No. Please don't draft my kids, I didn't vote for these
assholes. Draft only republicans. There are supposedly more of them than us, so chimpy should have all the bodies he needs for his wars, and all from people who support his insane policies to boot. Why would he want my kids anyway? He hates dissenters. Let his worshipers fight his battles. Only from my cold dead hands will he take my children. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate this "man?"

I know the process takes around a year. We haven't decided what we're going to do yet. I'm thinking of getting the paperwork going though, just in case. My 12-year-old wants to move to Europe.

I cannot imagine having a child in Iraq. I would be a basket case. :scared:

He attached his recent sermon, which held the thrust of how he felt on a deeper level. Lots of talk of swords into plow shares, blessed are the peacemakers, etc.

33. He's a fascinating guy.
One of the finest people I've ever met. Gentle and strong in equal measure. Wise but not overt -- he listens more than talks, except when stotytelling or preaching in church (which I've never seen, but I hear he's terrific).

I've known him since he and his twin orangeheaded bro were born. Watched him grow. Went to his side when his mother was murdered. Watched him rodeo (he rode saddle-broncs for awhile). Now, I just hope to see him come home safely.

I look forward to and dread his stories, both.

You are fortunate to know him.

"Went to his side when his mother was murdered." How horrible for both of you. :-(

"Now, I just hope to see him come home safely." Keep the faith, man. ;-)

"I look forward to and dread his stories, both." I know exactly what you mean, but I'd want to hear them anyway, even if they left me feeling sick. For some people, telling the dreaded part is therapeutic. Whether that's the case with him or not, I still think it's important for him to share them.

41. nope, this blue-stater
is going to sit back and watch as Darwin is proved right again and most of the "poor, stupid, toothless cousin-fuckers in the red states" run off to Iraq to die. "The power of my superior brain" tells me I don't have much power because I'm in the minority and that when enough of the majority's kids come home in a body bag things will change and not until then.

Every person has the option to say, "I'm not going". If they don't use that option its certainly not my fault when they die.

republicans say: "why should we pay higher taxes just because the liberals want to pay high taxes. if they want to, THEY can pay high taxes", and other nonsense like that.

Well, we can say "why should we go or send our kids to a war we don't support"?
