Black market botox has cost the health of a doctor and his patients


HE WAS a brilliant and handsome doctor from New Jersey who had won a coveted fellowship and once been an Episcopalian altar boy and high-school football star.

But Bach McComb, 47, is now paralysed and suffering from pneumonia after becoming the unlikely victim of one of the worst cosmetic surgery disasters in recent memory.

The Florida doctor injected himself, along with his girlfriend and two patients, with a huge quantity of cheap, imitation Botox, the anti-wrinkle treatment, which turned out to be raw botulinum toxin, the same lethal bacterium used in biological weapons.

The other victims of the black-market Botox disaster include Eric Kaplan, 52, a self-made lifestyle guru who wrote a bestselling book, raised $2 million (£1 million) for his local synagogue and owns a fleet of sports cars.

2. This Appears To Be The Culture Of These Quacks...

... and their followers. Their distrust of REAL doctors and their paranoia about the role of the FDA, leads them to feel that they can self-medicate, self-treat, and turn to questionable sources for unreliable... and in this case... nearly FATAL treatments.

What a shame for these people and what their families now have to endure. That's a HEAVY price to pay.

Excuse me - he was a freakin' nutcase -

it sounds like he may have been a murderer masquerading as a doctor:

Dr McComb was arrested last year for writing illegal painkiller prescriptions.

Five of his patients, two in their twenties and three in their thirties, died of overdoses. No charges were filed against Dr McComb over their deaths.

He was, however, set to stand trial in February for allegedly overprescribing drugs such as OxyContin, Xanax and Valium.

Dying for a few friggin' wrinkles is nuts - I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I don't care. Wrinkles and aging are a part of life, a sign of maturity, a physical recognition of "childhood" passed.

I do wish that people would get over themselves with the "I gotta look like a kid" shit.

We've devolved to the point that strutting, abusive assholes who call themselves "entrepreneurs" and who "march to a different drummer" (called criminality) are regarded as 'brilliant'. They're not.

People simply want to look at beautiful figures and faces when they see a movie or magazine cover. The fact that fourteen year old girls are plastered on magazine covers pretending to be adult women is completely harmless. The fact that Hollywood make-up, surgery and airbrushing techniques make a 70 year old man into the Sexiest Man Alive by making him seem thirty years younger, and by pairing him with women young enough to be his grandchildren, are simply fantasies that only entertain , and have no negative consequences. People aren't brainwashed into feeling they have to look young to be accepted and loved.

It wasn't the "quest for perfection" that caused this to happen, it was the quest for the fulfillment of mass-media-marketed sexual fantasy coupled with the quest for the almighty dollar.

This is another reason those DU "Hey, look at the pretty babe I found" threads set me off. Wrong emphasis.
