4. I dunno.
Whatever it is, the connotation is that he is somehow in their league, when he is closer to a cross between Pol Pot and Ernest of "Ernest Goes to Camp".

It's an abomination.

7. This is an actual photo. The back-drop is a Canadian stage.
The photo was taken of GWBush while touring and speaking in Canada. When I saw this stage on C-Span (live), I truly could not understand why the Canadians had such a photo back-drop, other than an insult to GWBush. Since the photograph depicts historical titans unlike GWBush and his world stupidity.

2. It's a real shot
Bush is covering up Stalin, just like he's covering up Stalin's buddy, Cheney.

14. the White House made up that banner itself
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 06:02 PM by Lisa
No kidding. They sent one of their designers up to Halifax more than a week before the event (so basically, the city hosts had only just been notified they had a few days to receive W in the manner he's accustomed to). The guy put together a spread of archival photos (probably "borrowed" from the museum at the site) and the banner was printed in the States. (They didn't even trust Canada to get it right!).

By the way -- another Canadian DUer pointed out that the short is actually taken from a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King, with FDR and Sir Winston but not Stalin -- though it does look like the more famous Yalta pic! The funny thing is, Bush appears to be sitting in for Mackenzie King ... he even quoted from him several times (out of context). But King is one of our loopier politicians -- his administration was plagued by scandal, and being a devoted spiritualist he used to consult the ghost of his mother for policy advice. Bush's people probably didn't know that when they insinuated him into the picture like that.

Probably Karl and Co. were hoping that papers in the US and Canada would put that eye-catching photo on their front page. I know the Globe and Mail did, but they received an avalanche of derisive letters from their readers ....
