Americans get even stupider.... wanna restrict Muslims' civil rights...

http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2004/12/18/muslim/index_np.html

"Nearly half of all Americans believe the U.S. government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans, according to a nationwide poll."

Why do so many Americans hate America? I think it's tied directly to the stupidity levels in our once-great country...

Doh! Christ it's hard to be a Seahwks fan...

6. well said
Pure racism. I just can´t believe it! And nearly half of the U.S. believes this? I´m speechless really. I have a 100.000 things to say, but I don´t even know where to begin, and I´m not even gonna try anymore because to them:
Muslim=terrorist=evil

It´s just so easy to blame all Muslim Americans, trying to take away their freedom. But not one single terrorist cares about what their freedoms or civil liberties are, they´ll create their own.

5. WHAT?

"Nearly half of all Americans believe the U.S. government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans, according to a nationwide poll."

I'M SHOCKED, I TELL YOU, SHOCKED!....Ah, America the beautiful! We are spearing freedom and democracy around the globe!

"We've witnessed, in little over a generation, the swiftest advance of freedom in the 2,500 year story of democracy. Historians in the future will offer their own explanations for why this happened. Yet we already know some of the reasons they will cite. It is no accident that the rise of so many democracies took place in a time when the world's most influential nation was itself a democracy."

7. This is the first in a series
first they restrict the civil liberties of Muslims. Next it will be another group-maybe gays, maybe liberals, maybe Democrats, maybe anyone not a fundamentalist right wing Christian.

I really think Bushco is doing what it can to whip up anti-Islamic sentiment in this country. Just heard about the Swift Boat Liar who has written a book about Iran and who says terrible lies about Islam. He's been made a GOP spokesman to go around and present the case for war with Iran. This was just reported on AAR.

8. Sigh.... when will we all catch on?
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 03:19 PM by ChairOne
This is the PEOPLE (1/2 of them at least) who want to restrict civil liberties.

There's nothing good to say about bushco - don't get me wrong. But it's the PEOPLE in this country who have hated faggots, niggers, ragheads and intelligence - they're finally getting to have their say...

bushco is just an incarnation of the people (over 1/2, apparently) who hate all the good things America used to stand for...

Put on your best Exorcist voice and join with me:

The problem is the people!
The probelm is the people!
The problem is the people!

9. Not people-sheep
sure, some will always hate everyone not like themselves. But there has been a concerted effort by some in this country, mainly fundy preachers, to demonize Islam and Muslims. If one of those 44% believed the preacher on this one, who is to say they won't agree on other things posed? I live in Arkansas, where the GOP told the people that we liberals would take away their Bibles, and apparently some believed the lie. So what is to say that the GOP won't use these same channels to make these people hate Democrats and liberals in general?

11. Then you and I have a chicken-egg disagreement...
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 03:45 PM by ChairOne
I think our good Arkansan, etc. friends were always ready to blow away those fuckin ragheads... it just took awhile to get the people in power to do it...

They've been stewing since Reconstruction, and the Civil Rights Act set the ball in motion... 9/11 gave them the excuse...

But in any case, I'm a firm member of the camp that says: the politicians reflect the people, and not vice-versa. I take it you're a firm member of the other camp... :)

10. SIGH. It just never
ends, does it? We just never learn, do we?

"And in other news, nearly half of all Germans support restricting the civil liberties of Jews and Gypsies."

Dollars to doughnuts they're secretly building the camps for them right now.

William Rivers Pitt said in his speech at Kent State during this year's May 4 commemmoration that "the only thing we learn from history is that we never learn from history." Amen to that! And I don't have the best memory in the world, but I don't recall people clamoring to restrict the civil liberties of angry white men and/or ex-soldiers after Timothy McVeigh blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building.

12. Way past time
for at least one half of US citizens should review the US Constitution or this country will be well on the way to becoming truly a fascist nation.
