Backstage Controversy after NBC depiction of Limbaugh
NBC's comedy depiction of talkradio king Rush Limbaugh passed-out in vomit from drug abuse ignited backstage outrage at SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.

The animated sketch left one senior production source stunned and outraged, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"Would we have done this to Belushi? Farley?" the source said on Sunday from New York.

The source asked not to be identified fearing retribution from SNL's executive producer Lorne Michaels.

Sorry for the Drudge link, folks... Did they actually show this? OMG
Yay!

1. "The source" needs to get a grip. Belushi and Farley are dead. And never
...did they pontificate about what the penalties should be for drug abusers--unlike the bloviating hypocrite, Limbaugh.

2. Excellent, fire the fucker
Get any Rush apologists off of the SNL staff and it might start to become a decent show once again!

4. Yep, and it was hilarious! he's a big hypocrite, and a jerk, while Farley
and Belushi weren't hypocrites, and were decent people.

5. Haha.. That's pretty funny
Belushi and Farley were drug users, but they weren't hypocrites like Rush.

7. Maybe they should have....
while they were alive, might have saved John & Chris's lives.

What's a little embarrassment compared to choking on your own vomit?

8. why the outrage for Rush?
They spare mercy on no one? The key difference between Belushi and Rush is that the latter is fortunate enough to have avoided lethal overdose. It sounds to me like the outrage might have been anticipating the onslaught of conservative hate mail that will almost certainly follow.
I didn't see the skit. It sounds like it was funny.

I doubt anyone at the show actually said this, much less to Drudge.

"Would we have done this to Belushi? Farley?" the source said on Sunday from New York.

The source asked not to be identified fearing retribution from SNL's executive producer Lorne Michaels.

"We've had more fu**ing drug addicts on this show through the years... more tragedy. I have lost count. Did we ever have some laughs about Robert Downey Jr.'s serious drug addiction?"

Not only does this "source" not sound like an SNL insider, it sounds like someone who's never watched the show! When Downey hosted in '96 or '97 (sometime after he served time for drug use), half the show contained jokes and sketches about his drug and legal problems. When Farley hosted a few months before his death, there were allusions to his stint in rehab. And anybody that remembers the old show or has watched it in reruns knows that there were a ton of jokes about Belushi's drug use. Yeah, not many Farley/Belushi jokes after they OD'ed. But then, the deceased are a little more off-limits for parody than a (hypocritical) junkie that's still alive and bloviating.

This sounds like Freeper logic to me, so I'm guessing Drudge either made this up or it comes from someone whose connection to the show is very tenuous.

14. I seem to remember
A "cribs" sketch with Chris Kattan as Downey giving a "tour" of his prison cell. I also remember that episode when Downey hosted. It was funny and the whole thing was jokes about it. They have never not made fun of someone like that. Also, in case you didn't know, Jim Downey, who used to be Al Franken's writing partner on the show, is Robert's uncle. That is probably there are not jokes about Robert like Limbaugh. But otherwise...

Rush and this "Source" needs to get over it. Rush is a hypocrite and he is just bringing more attention to this sketch. It was funny and I would bet my bottom dollar that Rush is not "in recovery" in his life. His behavior does not look like someone who is. He still blames everyone else for his problems.

17. I also recall that they did indeed "have some laughs" at Downey's expense.
As you said, the person allegedly complaining (Drudge's "senior production source") apparently isn't familiar with the history of the show.

Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 10:08 PM by StClone
Has a producer upset at having him depicted in a truthful/comedic manner. BBbwwwwwwwwwwaaa! Poer ittle baby snook um. Can't take a little comedy skit about King Sleaze. Oh Come on it's a parody for God sakes. Rush hides behind his shows propaganda by saying it's only entertainment -- no holds barred. Guess what bone headed Ditto wankers SNL is entertainment. F-off.

Lol.

Wonder if he/she is as "stunned and outraged" over "shock and awe".
