I'm sorry, but this Moscow Times article is funny (sad, but funny)
About chimp's latest death penalty signature: 20,000 wild horses.

snip
So the ranchers want the horses off public land so they can cram more cows in there and make more money through their sweetheart deals. The resource at issue here is grass, not oil, but the principle is the same as in Bush's witless, pig-layer adventure in Iraq: Me want, they got; kill them, give me.

1. I hope * goes back to the ranch and gets kicked square in the
midsection by some out-of-control Fundamentalist mustang with shiny iron shoes and a nail coming loose.....

5. I was under the impression that there are no animals on the ranch
I seem to recall there being quite a bit of ridicule...you can't call it a ranch if there are no animals!

2. What makes you think horses are a native animal?
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 11:47 AM by illflem
Why should they be afforded more protection than cows?
If it was a bunch of wild pigs they were thinking of slaughtering would you feel the same?

3. At no point
did I suggest that they were native animals, thanks. Nor did I suggest that they be afforded more protection than cows (or chickens, or fish, or pigs, or any of the other multitude of animals we senselessly butcher for food or profit).

8. I for two would also like to help save them.....BUT
the bill's already signed into law and the only people with the audacity to combat it would be animal rights' groups, and they don't have near the number of lobbyists in Washington as the agricultural sector.

13. I would like to rally people in Germany but I
need somebody to draw me up a letter and give me addresses. People all over the world love your wild horses!

9. The topic is sad, the way it's written is funny.
Kind of like what I said in my post header, which you obviously ignored. You should head over to LBN and accuse all the posters there of supporting Bush any time they post something that has one iota of praise for him.

11. Much ado over nothing? Are you insane?
Should we go out and kill all the buffaloes next because we don't eat them?

Yes, I would. All animals are equal. All life is sacred.

12. Horses rose as a species in the Americas and then became
extinct. The ones that had migrated across the Bering Strait land bridge during an Ice Age (can't remember which one)survived in Asia, so they are more native than cattle.

Your argument however could be stretched to say that all non-native species need to be killed off. I would say the cattle should go in favor of the Bison and all non-native Americans should return to the land of their ancestors.

As you can see this isn't a practical solution and killing the horses for greed is very unethical IMHO.

... this is to catch and kill and sell as meat ALL remaining wild horses. Plain and simple. Kill all remaining wild horses.

15. The horses in question are just domestic animals gone wild
the only purpose they serve is some romantic wild west dream. Sure cows aren't native but at least they have a purpose.
Very obvious that few on DU make a living off the land and is also a big reason Democrats turn the heartland off.
