2. Atheism and Christmas?
As an atheist, I don't understand why so many people are against Christmas.

While the religious crowd may look at it as "the birth of Jesus", I look at it as a nice holiday where we get together with friends and family and remind ourselves of the act of giving.

If you want to sing Christmas Carols, go right ahead. I may even join in.

I my home I have a santa and a menorrah. I do it more for the pageantry.

It doesn't hurt me in any way if you say Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwanzaa.

Why are we so damn sensitive lately?

3. It's the right that's hypersensitive this year.
But I agree on most of your points and share the same sentiments.

28. I'm going to a Christmas celebration where 3/4 will be atheist.
I do it every year. I'll cook and decorate, and the jam session will probably include some Christmas songs.

Those complaining right wingers have one thing in common -- they're downers. They live in fear that someone, somewhere is having a better time than they are. That's why they hate sex, too.

7. Is anyone actually senstive?
I'm not athiest, but I'm not christian. I'm my own religion. Some sort of deism humanism science mix.

I love Christmas. I sing carols. I have a tree. I decorate the outside of my house. I have santas and snowmen, and candy canes.

We just don't have a manger scene in the house, but I could care less whether someone else does, or even if it's in the town square (though i think they look nicer in front of churches...soemthing about the juxtoposition of the start of the religion in a manger, versus the spires of the churches. It's nice. In front of a town hall seems...well it's usually nice, but it can seem trashy and disrespectful to christianity imho.

Still. Is there anyone here, or anyone that you know that actually has a problem with any of this?

Yes the right is pumping it up and making noise, but honestly. Does anyone have a problem?

I certainly don't. I don't have a problem, and I don't know anyone else who does either.

Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 04:33 PM by UdoKier
Me and my cunning democrat friends sneak out at night with flamethrowers and crowbars to destroy every manger scene we find and replace it with a diorama depicting sexual harrassment of a transgendered African-American womynist in the workplace at the hands of a CHRISTIAN WHITE MALE.

Isn't that what you guys do? I thought everybody did that.

I suppose I should add that this is a JOKE.

99% of repukes are probably so thickheaded they think I mean it.

10. I may be wrong, but
I don't really think there is any large percentage of people who are "against Christmas." Seems to me it's a made-up issue. Maybe there are some "bah-humbug"ers, and certainly there are those who disagree with the commercialization or nativity scenes sponsored by the government, but I don't know anybody who's against Christmas.

4. Christmas Strikes Back!
Santa steps up, shoots the horn of plenty right off the Thanksgiving table. Smokes the turkey with a laser beam.

Hannukah menorah suffers a similar fate. Melted wax runs down onto dradle game.

The New Years Baby and Father Time both burst into flames as the Christmas laser hits them! The light ball is blown right off the top of the MONY building before it can drop.

Take that 'Happy Holidays' !

20. That's exactly what it is!
I know a number of Christians in different parts of the country and haven't heard a peep from them about their holiday or their religion being under attack; not one word. I am hearing this shit from a Repub neighbor (not the least bit religious) however who has one ear glued to conservative talk radio and the other to Faux News. This is hyped up BS and the stupid, lame liberal media just lap it up.

16. I was waiting for this...
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 04:08 PM by DougieZero
I actually made a mental note of this... Every year Bill O'Reilly does his "CHRISTMAS IN UNDER ATTACK!" segments, but he started them 3 days before thanksgiving this year... These anonymous secular liberals are out to destroy Christmas, I think George Soro's name gets peppered in a few times too for some reason...

The truth... I love Christmas... I love Santa.. I love the Charlie Brown christmas special... My mom makes these great deviled eggs for the holidays. How can we prove to Fox News and the talk radio rage that we are mostly cool with Christmas?

18. I've hated Xmas* ever since I was a teeanger
And only now the right wingers are pretending to be persecuted be me now that they have both houses of Congress and the presidency and soon to stack the Supreme Court.

Now: before I get flamed, I don my asbestos suit and elaborate.

What I hate about Xmas* is not the religious aspect. I hate the commercialization. I hate how stores play their insipid music and throw Xmas* into everything. I once saw a guy wearing a Santa suit in October. One mall was decorating for Xmas* in August. I hate the obligatoriness of going into debt to singlehandedly prop up the economy and spend the rest of the year paying it off. I hate how the retailers constantly whine about how there aren't enough people spending their Friday off to shop instead of being with their friends and family.

I do NOT hate non-insipid holiday music. I love O Holy Night when performed well. I hate the barking dog version of Jingle Bells. Give me Carol of the Bells hard rock version by Trans Siberian Orchestra over the cringe-worthy Jingle Bell Rock. And yes, I do plan to give a little something to the nieces and nephews, including and especially the ones who joined the family along with my brother's new wife.

I don't hate that.

I hate the Season of Greed, not Christmas, Eid al-Fitr, Hannukah, Yule, Saturnalia, Solstice or the Hmong New Year or whatever other holidays that come during the shortest days of the year in the northern hemisphere. I'd imagine the Australian Aboringines would be celebrating their version of midsummer.

Let the right wingers piss and moan about being persecuted when they've got the government in their underwear. I'll just point and laugh, because they don't know what Christmas really is.

Footnote:
* In this post and this post only: Xmas* is an abbreviation for the Season of Greed, not Christmas.

29. Let me see if I get this right?
A typical fundie christian is white, middle to upper class, educated, has a decent job, goes to the church of their choice, have managed to elect their leaders to the highest offices, they are waging in a crusade to destroy Muslims and they've got their knickers in a twist because some phantom menace wants to destroy Christmas. Oh please, give me a break.
