Actually, I was practicing a bit of self-censorship. I omitted the martyrdom of the Blessed Blandina, who of all the Confessors of Lyons died most miserably and whose charred lifeless corpse suffered the most barbaric treatment.
Instead of "most horrible Christian martyrdom," I should have posed it as "most outrageous persecution of Christians," or something like that.
What they did to Saint Margaret Clitherow, that is very cruel.

3. You forgot my fave...St. Catherine |

She walks around with this platter with blue sunny-side up "eggs" on it. Those are her eyes which were gouged out. Best Icon Ever....

6. Wasn't Catherine the one nailed to a "fiery wheel"? |
|
I thought St. Lucia was the one with the eyes over easy. I'm for St. Agatha--her breasts were cut off. (Sorry, lack of female martyrs in the poll, those ones were usually *much* grislier.)

9. Oops... you are right St. Lucy.... |
|
And Catherine was martyred on the wheel...
Forgive me ;-) I'm not "of the faith". I get all my saintly info from my husband who is a recovering Catholic.

But one of the saints was "grilled" over a open flame, maybe in the 400-500's maybe later. He then asked to be flipped over so that he would cook evenly as the legend goes.

Catholic priest who offered himself up for execution in the place of a Jew who was about to be murdered by the Nazis. He wound up being run over by a tank.

13. Where's "Nibbled to Death By Ducks"? |
|
oh wait, that's right, I don't think there's a Catholic martyr killed that way.
either way, that'd be my vote. either that or consumed by garden snails. or flailed to death, gently, with scented shoelaces.
