AH HA! THE TRUE PURPOSE OF NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND
Concerns raised over school privacy notice

Sybil Arum's eighth-grade granddaughter came home this week worried that she was on the verge of being drafted by the military and sent off to war.

The reason for her fear was the Department of Education's annual privacy notice, which says contact information for secondary students as young as sixth-graders may be released to military recruiters unless the student, parent or legal guardian requests otherwise.

(snip)

"We don't just automatically release (the information to recruiters); it would have to be on request," said DOE spokesman Greg Knudsen. "Recruiters have told us that their interest is in juniors and seniors."

The privacy form, which also includes other disclosure information, goes to all public school students across the state. Many schools have sent the form out; at others, it is making its way to homes this week.

2. true this...
Honorable school districts mail (directly to the parents) the "opt-out forms" for each student. I have heard reports of other school districts who just hand them out to the kids, or leave them on a table at a PTA meeting.

I suspect they also gather names and addresses online, and F9/11 followed a couple of recruiters to malls, etc...

3. We need to sign into our children's schools and counter the military
propaganda to these students.

on my birthday, and a lil secret about me, i collect swords, and i just 5 minutes ago, purchaced a high quality katana, after chiding them for being whores, and they looked like theyt were gonna be physical, the long, thin box i was holding accidentally opened and the sword fell into my hand, they left, quickly

told to do.. It's the children that I don't want to see brainwashed with their (recruiter's) pressure, propoganda, empty promises and hero rhetoric.

4. I don't buy for one minute that they ONLY give the info to Recruiters
or, should I say, that the RECRUITERS only keep that info for themselves.

Why, Little Johnny and Marcie are about to turn 18? How about sign up for Capital One No Hassle Student Visa with only a 38.99% APR that will dramatically jump to 118% should you be late on one payment and did we mention it's only $119 "application fee" and an anual "membership fee" of $199.99 that will automatically be charged to your account every year.

Anything that the government (read: THIS government) sticks it's dirty little hands in is NEVER what it seems. "Uh gee...we never said MILITARY recruiters specifically. Why, "Recruiters" is a common word to describe telephone companies, credit card companies, credit reporting agencies..."

Working in telemarketing for far too many years than any human should, I know how valuable those "potential customer lists" are. Our company paid thousands of dollars for lists of Teenagers, pre-teens, and 'tweens' that we could market to. "Hey Jenny! A friend of yours called us and said you were inteterested in being a MODEL!!! You'd like to be a MODEL wouldn't you? How about you and your mom come to our MODEL talent show this weekend*! There's NO COMMITTMENT"
*no committment except $49.99 entrance fee and of course the whole modeling show was put on by a modeling talent recruitment agency, so if you'd like them to represent your daughter who has undeniable beauty charm wit and grace (which amazingly, every girl who walked through the door did), you can just come to these sessions where we help her out. Pay $4,000 for absolutely nothing and remember...what good parent WOULDN'T want their beautiful charming graceful slender talented daughter to be a MODEL..."

sorry......

7. The USA Patriot Act of 2001 and other relevant federal laws . . .
allows the inter-agency exchange of information. There's no barrier for this information since the bar is so damn low for such exchanges of information.

8. Of course they do
And while this rant I'm about to go on has nothing to do with NCLB, I absolutely HATE that my fucking CREDIT RATING is tied to EVERYTHING.

Insurance rates---dependent upon credit rating
Credit Card APR's--dependent upon credit rating
MY FUCKING CABLE BILL is dependent upon my credit rating (There's a disclaimer that they "routinely check credit worthiness" of customers and that my prices COULD go up if I don't meet their impecable standards of credit worthiness.

I hate that it's pretty much standard fare for potential EMPLOYERS to do credit checks on potential employees. Perhaps I can understand if the employee will be handling cash or expensive merchandise---I applied for a receptionst job at a custom hat embroidery company and they checked my FICO score. Why? I never touched merchandise, I never touched money, I had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any financial transactions whatsoever, yet they wanted to see my credit worthiness.

Fucking unnecessary.

5. Indeed. A parent must opt-out. And if a parent does not opt-out,
then the U.S.A. military starts their dance for the kid to "volunteer" into the U.S.A. military. BTW, the military targets "certain" schools, "certain" zip codes . . . can you guess where? Correct. Where the kids do not enter a post-secondary education institution (read: college or technical school etc.). Those damn bastards!! The military drums and drums and drums and drums and drums for these kids. And the military is very successful at what it does too.

9. I graduated HS in 1994
My HS was easily 75-80% black, 90% lower to lower middle class household income (Regardless of race, although the blacks were much poorer than the white students). My school was in an economically depressed area. High drop out rate, low college entrance rate, even lower rate of students who achieved any post-HS degree/diploma/certification.

We ALWAYS had recruiters at our school. Mostly Army, but USAF as well.

I had a friend who lived on the other side of town, richer, whiter, much more affluent. She said they NEVER had recruiters there. It was always disconcerting to me that our school would routinely have assemblies that were hosted by the Army Reserve. Or USAF or Army or Marines. It was always around graduation time and you had to sit there MANDATORY for THREE HOURS (no lie) and listen to hour after hour after hour of how great you are if you serve and what a shithead good for nothing peice of trash if you don't. The Marine recruiters would pull students out of the bleachers and make them do pushups, or run around the gym (assemblies always held in the Gym-na-cafe-torium). It was humiliating, and what was this student's fate if he DIDN'T do 200 pushups in front of the ENTIRE FUCKING SCHOOL. Gee...talk about peer pressure.

But my rich friend who lived in the good part of town and had maybe 40 non-whites at her entire school never had the recruiters. They always had people from the State University and private colleges come by.

Strange. I'm sure it was just a mixup.....
