Anyone hear Richard Perle on NPR this morning?
The prince of darkness defending the war and Rummy, blaming Clinton, talking about a few small mistakes etc. It was of course disgusting.
Are these people really human?
What an 'evil' entity he is!

1. Why is this criminal even allowed to have access to the airwaves?
He no longer works for/or represents the US government. Why is allowed to continue to speak for them?

Hence, NPR access.

...they're carrying the blame Clinton game into the second term?

Don't you wish they could come up with an original line once in a while?

8. Standard right-wing talking points.
Clinton gets blamed for (allegedly) cutting the defense budget, so two years after he was out of office it's still his fault that they sent the troops to Iraq without enough equipment. Of course, Clinton will be blamed for everything. General Shinseki is the guy who said before the war that they would need more troops, and got sacked for it. How bizarre to suggest he's at fault. Perle is a fuckwit.

thanks, no wonder I couldn't find the name on a search, my spelling was WAY off. :-)

Now I know who he is. I remember his 'firing' and reading some very critical statements from him.

25. Shinseki was the greatest loss of all
When Rumfilled cashiered him for telling the truth, America lost a brave, smart, honorable soldier who'd paid his dues in battle.

Check out his farewell address. It's a model of discretion and elegance, and it's not hard to read between the lines.

http://www.army.mil/features/ShinsekiFarewell/farewellremarks.htm

Prophetic words from this General:

"You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment, but you cannot lead without it; and without leadership, command is a hollow experience --a vacuum often filled with mistrust and arrogance."

:toast: to a great soldier!

9. The bottom line is this war is solely the responsibilty
of the war criminal himself, Bush. they can spin it anyway they want to, but they went into this illegal war without the equipment to fight it. All of it rests on their shoulders alone.

they asked about why some major Repugs were upset with Rummy.
He basically said they were just a 'few' and not to worry.
They let it slide at that. That is as "tough" as it got.

13. I heard him deliver an essay on why torture was acceptable
on NPR - and this was back in 2001 or 2002. For the most part now I've really stopped listening to NPR, and it started with that interview.

I think there is a fine line between entertaining contrary points of view and giving air time to a point of view that is so clearly anti-human. No wait a second, it's not a fine line at all.

15. NPR is one year into their project
to become like all the other media. I get so mad when they put on people like Perle with hardly any explanation of their role or relationship to the matter at hand. Perle should be in jail.
Last year they had two people from the American Enterprise Institute discussing ****'s economic policy. God, it was sickening, just plain smarmy. This was on ATC. No explanation of who the speakers were other than "members of AEI".
I write to NPR and get no replies. Do they get funding from the government? I've heard that is why the decided right wing turn in the last year and why Bob Edwards got booted. I heard someone from the NPR board on the air one day say that NPR was striving for "more balanced reporting". Not good or factual. More balanced. You know like "fair and balanced".

17. Is that who that fool was???
I came in during the interview and had to leave before the end, but I heard enough to hear him blame Clinton for not having the right military for the job and the lack of armor.

I think only the Kool-Aid drinkers are believing this nonsense. C'mon, we have been at war there for 18 months or so - so we couldn't have made some adjustments along the way??? To blame Clinton sounds totally unbalanced. The US made some ridiculously high number of planes each month during WWII, so how can he still blame Clinton? The man has been gone for 4 years!!!

Puleeeezzze!!! Praise the Lord and pass the red Kool-Aid!

21. NPR=IRR=Irrational Republican Radio
The Perle interview was awful.

It would be one thing if the "reporters," led into him with something like, "Richard Perle was instrumental in leading the country to war through his work with PNAC and close associations with Ahmed Chalabi," but instead there is just the usual drivel that he is a commentator on Rumsfeld's situation.

:grr:

And then asked a few questions such as, "You state that the insurgency could not have been anticipated by Rumsfeld, but doesn't this sort of thing ALWAYS happen when a colonial power attempts to conquer a nation on the cheap?"

And then it would have been nice to hear a closing statement such as, "Richard Perle is presently avoiding war criminal charges thanks to his political connections in the * administration, and the fat paycheck from AEI helps too."

I started to write an angry letter to NPR, but then grew too depressed to finish/send it. I will, however, remember this propaganda-as-news nonsense when the next fundraising drive comes around...

There's nothing public about them asking me for money so that they can peddle lies...

23. I gave up on NPR news a long time ago
These days, I listen only to their local classical music station, but I'm not even too happy with that anymore, since they bought up their chief rival, an independent non-profit classical music station.

But the pandering to the right wing is nothing new. I got upset with them back during the Reagan administration when the McNeill-Lehrer Report had Judy Woodruff in a softball interview with Eliot Abrams. He lied blatantly, and Judy just nodded and smiled. I wrote an angry letter, detailing their lies. Three or four months later, I got a printed postcard saying in total: "We're sorry that you think our coverage is biased. We endeavor to present all points of view." In other words, "Fuck you, but we're public radio, so we'll say it more politely."

I was in Japan for the entirety of the Gulf War, but when I came back, people told me that NPR had been rah-rah all the way. The same was true during the Iraq War. Since the UK was involved, even the BBC was rather uncritical, so I watched News World International for Canadian coverage.

31. NPR (Neocon Public Relations) featured the Prince prominently, and
the interviewer failed to ask him or the other neocon they interviewed anything with teeth. In fact, they let the Neocons argue that (1) it takes time to build a police force to keep all of those people in check (without explaining who was doing it for the decades prior to the U.S. occupation; and (2) that the military was cold war era during the invasion of Iraq, just months after the Chimp took over the presidency (without explaining why they were in such a hurry to invade Iraq in the first place and could not update the military before invading (PNAC needed to get the U.S. in quickly and getting stuck was part of the plan in the first place)).
