A disturbing pattern
A study published in 2002 found 6 cases that closely resemble the recent crime in Missouri, and observed shared links between perpetrators

The bizarre crime in which a pregnancy is feigned, a pregnant victim befriended and then killed for her unborn child is rare, but a remarkably similar pattern has been seen in a handful of cases in the past few decades, forensic experts say.

Scientists at Boston College, in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, studied 199 infant abductions from 1983 and 2000. They found six cases that echo the events that led to the death of Bobbie Jo Stinnett last week in Missouri and the kidnapping by Caesarean section of her unborn child. Suspect Lisa Montgomery is being charged in that case.

Psychiatrists and psychologists say there have been enough infant abductions, 288 in the United States since 1983, that they have reached some conclusions about the motivations behind these crimes. Ann Burgess of Boston College, the lead author of the 2002 study on the six "kidnapping by Caesarean" cases, said "these women are narcissistic beyond belief."

However, after a long analysis of the cases, Burgess and her colleagues concluded the majority of these women did not have psychotic symptoms. They were organized in identifying their victims and deciding when to kill them and kidnap the baby.

In the second article about a murder of a pregnant woman, you refer to the first murder. In the next article about the next murdered pregnant woman , you refer to the other two and call it a pattern.
It's a journalistic practice that's been done for a hundred years.

5. What it means is that the legal definition of insanity is not met

This means, to put it bluntly, Lisa montgomery was a cold, calculating, pre-meditated murderer. If she attempts an insanity plea, it will not hold water primarily because of the evidence of premeditation.

Montgomery lives and she said Montgomery tried very hard to come over to her house several times. Montgomery kept trying to be chummy, overly chummy, the pregnant woman said. She said she wondered if she was meant to be the victim. It was on CNN this morning.

I would bet there's some fundie link to it in the background somewhere. When the story first broke about the perp, there was a mention of the fact that she'd shown off the baby to her pastor. In later accounts saying essentially the very same thing, she was said to have have showed off the baby to "some friends".

The link in the original message requires registration (Husb2Sparkly doesn't do registrations). I bet if one were able to follow the link, one might well find some mention of a fundie related aspect.

Seems these sad, awful stories oftan have that whole fundie theme through them somewhere. Yates in Txas with her kids. That lady recently who cut off the kid's arms. Now this one. All had some fundie link.

Sadly there are mentally ill people who will kill a stranger for no reason and then there are those that will kill a woman and rip her child from her uterus. Sad but in a world of billions of people I bet there are even more disgusting things that I really hope I never hear about.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, the media is trying to make a huge story out of this tragedy. Another DUer linked to some great sites that basically stated that around 1400 women are murdered a year by someone that they are intimate with....and not suprisingly...some 10% of them are pregnant..pregnancy can bring out the very best and the very worst in a relationship..sad but true.
