Kucinich: Iraq Out of Control

Kucinich: Brazen Attacks in Iraq Defy Administration's Rhetoric
Iraq Out of Control; January Elections Will Be a Sham

WASHINGTON -- December 21 -- Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) issued the following statement today on the escalating violence in Iraq:

"The brazen executions, captured on film for the world to see, shows Iraq out of control, despite Administration rhetoric. The US occupation has failed to provide security. It's time for the Administration to be honest with the American public: Free and fair elections cannot, and will not, happen under such conditions. The January election can only be a sham.

"American troops and American taxpayers are footing the bill for a war that was never needed, and a war that is counterproductive to the security interests of our nation. No weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq and the 9/11 Commission has determined that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with the September 11th attacks.

"This Administration is conducting a war with no end. Iraqi elections, while an important step, will not bring an end to the US occupation of Iraq, and will not bring our soldiers home.

"The continued occupation of Iraq is draining our financial resources here at home, and is harming our military readiness worldwide. We cannot continue down this path.

"Now is the time for a new direction in Iraq. We must end the occupation of Iraq. It is time for a new plan. It is time, to begin the process of getting the UN in and the US out."

"That's one huge elephant in the living room" and "Wow, the emperor sure does look ugly without any clothes on."

5.  By the way
Where are all those idiots who sniggered during the Primaries when Kucinich was saying "US out, UN in"?

Weep for our country that Democrats asphyxiated Kucinich's campaign. In 10 years, the idea of a Department of Peace won't sound so funny when our kids are getting blown up in pizza parlors.

In 10 years, the idea of taking 15% off the Pentagon's budget won't seem so silly, nor will the idea of demilitarizing space.

America has the kind of leader it deserves in Bush.

6. Why he is always the only guy who makes sense?
I wish more people would say the things that need to be said like DK does.

7. Thanks, Mr. Kucinich.
We don't need all those expensive, stupid, campaign consultants and advisers. All we need is someone with common sense. That's how to win an election.

15. Only if you are looking through
a lens that inevitably forces every conversation to be about Kerry.

I don't see anything here about Kerry. I see people thanking Dennis Kucinich for his courage, and for standing virtually alone in opposition to the disaster in Iraq, still.

We remember why we supported him in the primaries, and why we still support him. We wish his own party valued him more.

14. DK... he was unafraid to speak the truth
all along, it has now become clear that he was right all along.
Too bad his "fringe" ideas were the truth.

16. Kucinich wasn't the only ...
Dem that did not vote for the Iraq resolution nor the only one that spoke out against the invasion. I am not attempting to take anything away from him but correcting a perception.
