And the answer would be the same in almost any situation where we overthrew the sovereign government without provocation, unless it was a very tiny country.

The invader NEVER wins in these kinds of conflicts,regardless how powerful it is unless it is a nation invading its neighbor, like China did to Tibet - then the invading country can simply inundate the occupied land with settlers. Otherwise, they are eventually thrown out on their asses.
