US still building permanent Bases?
I haven't heard much about this.. If so, it might be very revealing to post a map showing where they are located along with the location of Iraqi oilfields. Anyone know if this has been done?

1. One justification for Iraq war was US bases
One of the early justifications for the Iraq war was the concept that we could have 17 or so permanent bases in Iraq and then withdraw our troops from Saudi Arabia. One of bin Laden's main demands has been that the US troops on Saudi soil had to go.

2. Not just Iraq
I saw a list some time ago and it is astounding where we've built bases over the past 10 years or so. Just the ones in the former USSR states kind of blow my cold-war mind.

3. The funny thing is those bases in the "stans"
all fall along the Caspian Sea or Trans-Afghani pipeline that was one of the results of 9/11.

But that's just a coincidence, right?

6. Its my opinion so feel free to blast me
You paying with your money, life and blood, to provide security for the Oil resources own by private Corporation. The smae corporation will go broke if they need to provide it themself. And no you be there till there no more OIL to pump. Then you can come home or maybe go guard another oil field.

Its an observation, maybe a look at the ownership of this corporations will give you a better answer. Why dont the US goverments just own it. Lots of cash there to pay for the deficits and to pay for programs that can benefit the US people as a whole.

8. I know, there's nothing we can do about it though.
The big corps are in bed with the government. The Republicans just want to filter out all the wealth to their wealthy friends.

Welcome to DU. I always appreciate hearing the perspective of other citizens of the world.

Unfortunately, what you suggest, although it certainly has its logic, is considered "communism" and thus entirely without merit and utterly out of the question by most Americans.

My friends say the Air Force bases are being heavily and I mean heavily fortified.
You couldn't get within 25 miles of the runways.

Ground power is nice.
Air power rules.

15. Saddam was the LAST US puppet leader...
..of Iraq. You must be thinking of the one before Saddam, though what happened to Saddam would illustrate your point quite nicely.

12. Doesn't this really piss off other countries?
I truly find it remarkable that the rest of the world has uttered not a word about the obvious imperialistic implications of the expansion of US military power.

Yes Russia is a shadow of the former USSR in terms of projecting military power but I would've thought they might object to all the 'stan bases. I guess we bought their acquiescence.

14. I can't believe you didnt know this....
...That's the main reason why they invaded Iraq... to set up Centcom's stability for world domination. They even have that PNAC whacko on the lecture ciruit, he was on C-Span the other night.

Barnett says he's given at least 50 lectures in the last 40 months to various members of the government and military. He was talking about the CLinton years and called it the "Home Alone Years" because Clinton put the reins on them. These guys are scary, they talk about nukes like they're firecrackers.

Watch for them to secretly take out Valenzuela's democratically elected president while all eyes are on Iraq. The top half of South America is oil rich and they're going after it.
