How many US Military Operations have there been since 1980?
I was just trying to get an exact count, so that I can dispel the idea to my freeper relatives that we're a peaceful nation.

Off the top of my head, there's:

Grenada
Libya
Panama
Iraq
Somalia
Kosovo
Afghanistan
Iraq

Am I missing any?

2. You should add some of the CIA operations to the list.
They are more interesting and killed a whole lot more people (or at least assisted in the deaths of more civilians) than some of these affairs.

Start in Central America under Reagan and go from there.

5. There is a reasonably good list in...
... Gore Vidal's Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. Covers most continuing operations, too.

6. There was a failed
rescue mission in Iran in May 1980, and the CIA was all over central america with st. ronnie's blessings in the eighties.

7. Hundreds
The people only hear about those that make it to the public domain.

But in terms of "military operations"....anytime the military is involved in an excercise....be it protection, convoy, "peace-keeping" or invasion...it's listed by the military as a military operation.

If a soldier took fire....said soldier was "engaged" and it is counted.

Neither the Whitehouse nor the Pentagon announces each and every time the military is deployed or "engaged"

Add Haiti, the Phillipines, Colombia...add Jordan, Egypt and Uzbekistan.

The list is long.

We've got our fingers in a whole lot of pie.
