Making Christmas mean, vindictive and warlike
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 02:39 PM by Cocoa
no secret that there's a movement to spread the idea that Christmas is "under attack," but I wonder whether ordinary people will think it's worth it to "save" it, if the holiday starts taking on a militaristic tone like we're seeing. Isn't it supposed to be the exact opposite?

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/kathleenparker/kp20041222.shtml

Let's just say the "Merry Christmas" backlash has officially begun. After years of politically correct "Happy Holidays," and the annual assault on all things Christian in the public square, many Americans are declining to turn the other cheek*.

Falwell: "We are winning the Christmas war"

In his last televised Sunday sermon before Christmas, Moral Majority founder and Faith and Values Coalition national chairman Reverend Jerry Falwell announced, "we are winning the Christmas war" and thanked God for the "few conservatives" in the media.

*DU quiz: who coined the phrase "turn the other cheek" and for bonus points, what holiday celebrates his birth?

2. Winning the WAR?
They throw these militaristic phrases around -- militarism is not what Christianity is about. When Christians were persecuted by the Romans, they did not take up arms. They were martyred because war was not what they were about.
Falwell is showing his true colors.

3. So he's claimed victory in a war that wasn't even declared?
I'm SO SICK of this "siege on Christmas" nonsense.

Three more days, and it's over!!!

4. I prepared for the War On Christmas.
Just got my new bullet-proof Christmas Sweater. It's got snowmen who are sled-riding through Christmas trees and it can stop a .45 at 8 feet.

9. I'm with you!
This is a great idea. Let's respond to the Christmas Wedge with save Chanukah! It can't be a wedge if we don't get our knickers in a twist.

6. falwell and flunkies are in the religious business (yes, virginia, it most
...certainly is a business, and a HIGHLY profitable one at that). religion and christianity to falwell and friends mean bucks in those off-shore numbered accounts. christmas is a business enterprise. there is no vestigal remains of it's true meaning.

10. Next time someone brings up "Merry Christmas" to me...
I'm gonna look confused & say, "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm not a Catholic & I have never celebrated any mass of Christ! Never did understand all that Latin mumbo jumbo! When is it on, midnight of the 24, which station? I think there's something better on the Hallmark channel then!"

14. We should all just mark our storefronts now and get it over with

That is, after all, what they want.

We should just do it voluntarily as a protest.
