Why do Republicans hate 'correctness'?
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 02:59 PM by ck4829
Why do Republicans hate PC or otherwise known as Political Correctness?

Political Correctness is one of the things that have turned Civilization into what it is today.

Was Hitler politically correct?

Was RJ Rushdoony politically correct?

Has the Ku Klux Klan ever preached about being politically correct?

If you can answer all of three of these questions correctly you should also know that Hitler, Rushdoony, and the people in the KKK were racists and advocated murder, Rushdoony was the only person who never acted upon his hate speech.

Why do Republicans hate Factual Correctness?

There is a big push from Conservatives to promote Abstinence Education. However, this form of 'education' was found to be false. Abstinence Education pushed untrue notions such as touching people in certain areas would cause a person to become pregnant and said that a person could get HIV from tears.

Why do Republicans hate the truth?

18. They are so insecure and pitiful and desperately NEED to feel...
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 03:46 PM by Zinfandel
they are a better and superior spieces...

I wonder if they truly feel that way, when they are wiping their asses, just like every other human being????

The truth is...they truly don't feel or unstand like you or me...they have no real capacity in them for compassion, caring about people less forunate, fairness and what's right.

Only winning and me, me, me, I want, I want I want, I need, I need I, I, I... money, power, money, power, money, power...are the ONLY things that registers in their brains.

And they are dumbfounded...because they really believe..."Well, doesn't everybody want that" NO! Not to their degree of sickness and selfishness!!! They will lie cheat and steal to get whatever they want...

So what do we do about these people, we should all know by now, it's truly not in them to change, they wouldn't know how...the only thing we can absolutely count on with them is, they will continue to lie, cheat, steal, distort, smear and hate!

3. 'Political Correctness' is a phony reframing of another term
'Common courtesy'

By taking common courtesy out of the debate they've coarsened society and allowed hatred to reign.

12. Anything they don't like gets tarred with the "PC" brush
...any business decision, any casting decision, any choice of language can be cast in a PC light by a determined repuke.

Common Courtesy, Common Sense, Business Ethics, all can be replaced with PC if they want it that way.

They'll only be against "Political Correctness" until their revolution is complete -- then we'll have to be re-educated to the new PC...at gun-point, if necessary.

We have to find a way to reframe so as to eliminate "PC" from the vernacular. "Common courtesy" is a good start.

9. Who says they hate correctness?
they practice their own variety of correctness-

Just because they reject progressive notions of propriety and appropriatness doen't mean that (on the surface at least) they don't become indignant or downright hostile when they perceive that their own version(s) are disrespected.

13. They don't hate it...they coined the term!!!!!!
another example of how they've used the language.......now when people hear the term PC they automatically think its something bad and that someone (usually a liberal) is trying to get them to stop doing something.

19. No, they didn't coin the term...but they *have* turned it into a slur.
That much is certain.

And the term isn't even very new, but the pejorative sense of it is. I took a stroll over to Wordorigins.org and found the following:

"Another urban myth of our times is that the concept of politically correct was invented in the 1990s by conservatives who wished to lambaste liberals. The term and the concept are both actually much older."

They go on to cite the earlier known use of the term, admittedly in other contexts, and finish up with:

"The converse politically incorrect first appeared in 1947, in Nabokov's Bend Sinister. In 1977 the Washington Post used it to paraphrase as statement by the African Liberation Day Coalition.

The abbreviation PC first appeared in the New York Times in 1986."

14. Why do they hate government?
Why do they hate laws?

Why do they hate ethics?

It's the same answer for all of the above: these are all the things that keep them from taking advantage of people. It's hard to get an evil thing going with things like government, laws, ethics, and political correctness in your way.

17. Because they are racists, bigots, homophobes, and mysoginists,
duh! If you fall into one of the above mentioned groups it is too damn complicated having to filter out your normal use of words like "faggot", and "nigger", and "kike", and "cunt" and a whole host of others that normally would flow from your lips like a mountain stream.

It's tough being politically correct when you're a prick.

Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 03:32 PM by Tierra_y_Libertad
Support our troops.

Patriotism.

Traditional Family Values.

The Flag.

America is the greatest country in the world.

Capitalism is the only economic system that is moral.

Success is entirely dependent on income.

Abortion is always evil.

etc, etc, ad nauseum

Try gainsaying any of the above (and, other sacred cows) to a rightwinger and see them come unglued.

24. That's it
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 04:04 PM by LadyRaivan
I just recently left a military (read: extreme right-wing wacko) forum where the pet ethnic slur of late has been ‘gook’. Apparently this is a blanket term that can be used to describe all persons of the Asian persuasion, 'specially if they ain't actin' right. I find it interesting that, while you are free to call someone a ‘gook’ on this particular forum, you must refrain from calling anyone a ‘retard’ because one of the forum members has a kid who is developmentally disabled (Oh, dear, was that a PC term?). Does that mean that PC is BAD, unless something offends one of THEM, and then PC is GOOD?? What a bunch of hypocrites. Like someone else here said, it’s just common courtesy. Of course, when it comes to the right-wing, ‘Common Courtesy is an Uncommon Virtue’.

:wtf:

28. Nice post.
And sorta like Walt said, if they use a euphemism for "polite", then they don't feel as obligated to BE polite.

My essential definition of current day repubs centers around greed and selfishness. "PC" requires recognition/acceptance of "others', therefore, not worth wasting any extra effort over.

21. It's important to remember the timing...
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 03:59 PM by JHB
It's important to note exactly when the RW started fuming about "political correctness": the early 90s, especially after '92 and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Or more specifically, the precise point in time when even the most dinosaur right wingnuts could no longer sustain the "Glasnost is just a trick to make us drop our guard" meme without it being preposterous even to them. The age where they could rally support by claiming that the left were all "dupes or active agents of Moscow" was OVER.

Naturally, the Right being what it is, couldn't exist without a Threat To Our Way Of Life (tm), nor could they admit that people held leftist views out of reason or moral principles, so they collected a bunch of anecdotes about some ridiculous situations on campuses (some true, some false, most spun exaggerations) and puffed them up into the Great Doctrine of Political Correctness, which the "Radical Left" slavishly adhered to. In other words, "on orders from Moscow" decentralized.

The rest is a matter of evolution of usage.

I tend to dislike some forms of PC because it tends to sugar coat things that if they weren't sugar coated, might get more attention paid to them. George Carlin does a great skit on this very topic.

33. They like to pretend they're "rebels"
when most of them are losers who cower before authority. Just like Smirk's fantasy world in which he's a self-made, gun-slinging, war hero tough guy, the wingers have an alternate universe where everyone's against them, and tossing n-bombs makes them rugged outlaws.
