The very best thing I read today
PLEASE - if you have a chance, take a few moments and head over to Dailykos.....

a christmas message

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/22/05236/361

I will not snip any of it - go and read it yourselves....well, OK - here is the intro.....

I've been reading some of the noxious media tripe about attempts all over, I guess, to put the "Christ" back in "Christmas"....
I'm sorry, but I'm still waiting for them to put the Christ back into Christianity.

1. Thank you for this
Democrats ought to be speaking like this -- especially those of us who are Christian and who feel our religion has been hijacked by the right. We liberal Christians are the true followers of Jesus of Nazareth -- we have TRUE compassion, real empathy; we want our country to work for ALL OF US, not just for ourselves or for a few elites. The hypocrisy of these selfish, competitive, judgmental, SO-CALLED CHRISTIAN Repugs should be exposed at every opportunity.

3. If I had heard somebody preaching about this Jesus when I was eight
I'd probably be Christian today.

4. That's what I did hear when I was a child
and that's also why I'm so depressed by how the RWNJs have made me practically ashamed of my faith. Fundies take the Bible so literally -- it's maddening that they overlook what Jesus actually did, the people he chose to associate with and the way he treated them. The way they act, I wonder if they just memorize the verses and don't think about what they mean.

5. You know
That is exactly what I was thinking as I read tht post. That isn't to say that I am or do not feel spiritual...but christianity and the church somehow miss the point to me....in their actions.
