1. DING! DING! You win the prize. The entire bush* residency is about
...exploitation. It's no fucking wonder the rest of the world hates us. Our government and it's actions have given them good reason.

2. If you have time, read (or re-read)...
David Halberstam's book The Reckoning.

I'd been meaning to read it for years, and recently found it in a used book store.

Overall it's a history of how the American car industry collapsed, but LOTS of background on the politics of oil.

One fascinating section talks about the Japanese looking around IN 1969!!! And realizing that their wholly-imported oil came from four very unstable places--Libya, Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Their government immediately started planning a move from "oil heavy" industry, like shipbuilding and steel mills, to value-added high-tech products.

The rest, as they say, is history.

3. And they always find new fodder to defend our "way of life"...
Young people that have not had time to explore the world or to understand their "leaders" motives...

5. Our way of life, democracy, is being compromised more and more every day
Our obligation as American citizens is to ensure its survival by frequently contacting our congressional representatives to make sure that they are working for us.
