I was sitting here reading posts when I saw on TV the most ridiculous story ever. Apparently, there is a man in Lebanon, PA (like 20 minutes from my house)who is a preacher at a non-denominational church who has put up a sign about Santa right next to a huge highway. I can't remember exactly what this sign said...but here is a paraphrase:

Santa is a myth
Lying to your children is adding to the world's moral decay!

Can you believe that? I mean, how many people drive by that sign with little kids in the car who read that? How awful. All the fundies who try to take the fun out of christmas need to get a swift kick in the ass.

Every society has something to celebrate this time of the year. Western society has for various reason simplified it to Christmas as the dominant name for the time. But the universality of coming together with loved ones during the chill of the season is too far reaching. It touches all no matter their belief. It is the very essence of community and society. Thus the religious right cannot control it. They do not own it. And yet their presumptive holiday adorns the time. Thus they would rather destroy it than let it be beyond their control.

17. My fundie mom broke the news to me at 7

My new stepdad didn't see why I should believe in Santa (but I should believe in all the relgious hocus pokus)...So, over breakfast one day, I was worried because we were going out of town for Christmas. My mom started out telling me that Santa would know where I was. When I pressed (how?) she just blurted out that they were Santa. I was devastated. My brother (half) was told from day one that they were Santa. Why bother with stockings and crap if you're just going to say that you put the stuff in them??

I don't know what it is about fundies. They seem to think that kids won't get what Christmas SHOULD be about if they believe in Santa.
