A refresher course : Did Bush lie to get us into the Iraq War ?
Of course he did. But time and lies have a way of distorting our memories sometimes. However, we all recall how they went on for days and weeks about WMDs and poison gas and nuclear material. We all remember how George Bush went before the UN to ask for support and how he sent Colin Powell before that body to show photos that were a lie. And how Dick Cheney played point with his timely lies about nuclear capabilities and "mushroom clouds". But they never mentioned freedom or liberty during the entire buildup to the war. Once they invaded, they initially wanted to call it Operation: Iraqi Liberation, but they did not like the initials of the operation. OIL.

1. Here's the lie that got me:
We know exactly where the weapons are (or have an extremely good idea.) We can't tell people because that would compromise our sources. You just have to trust the government, they know what they're doing.

I don't think anybody said that specifically, but plenty of "experts" and "analysts" said it almost exactly.

I will never forget. I will also never trust government again.

3. Oh, YEAH! Well, I won't forget that, either! (again.)
"You're quite right; shorthand, 'We know where they are,' probably turned out not to be exactly what one would have preferred in retrospect," Mr. Rumsfeld said of remarks made during a wartime press conference. "

Fuck you! Go back to your crypt and drink some more blood, you fiend!

4. I thougt it was
Just north, south, west and east of Baghdad, or basically any damn place in the country.

Just spotted it on a search...

We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat. Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense

Yep, he knew exactly where to look.....

8. Oh , Rumsfeld actually said those very words on TV
..and the Defense Dept even has proof on their own website..

MR. STEPHANOPOULOS: Finally, weapons of mass destruction. Key goal of the military campaign is finding those weapons of mass destruction. None have been found yet. There was a raid on the Answar Al-Islam Camp up in the north last night. A lot of people expected to find ricin there. None was found. How big of a problem is that? And is it curious to you that given how much control U.S. and coalition forces now have in the country, they haven't found any weapons of mass destruction?

SEC. RUMSFELD: Not at all. If you think -- let me take that, both pieces -- the area in the south and the west and the north that coalition forces control is substantial. It happens not to be the area where weapons of mass destruction were dispersed. We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat.

9. Operation Iraqi Freedom
That's what the damned thing is called for chrissake. Yes they did lie about the WMD. BUT any time anybody tried to pin them down, they danced off to the rape rooms and Saddam the tyrant and helping the poor Iraqi people. That's been part of the deception all along. No need to rewrite history.

10. Its not about Oil, its about Power
Oil is just one of many aspects of this whole game. In the end it is about power. Money is meaningless. It is control that matters.

14. I wholeheartedly agree
Oil is one component in the equation. The goal is to gain more power and control. Oil is just one item on a list of items.

13. I remember seeing Rumsfeldt
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 03:05 AM by walldude
totally get caught in a lie on.. I think it was Meet The Press. He denied ever saying Iraq was an imminent threat to us. The interviewer then read the direct quote where Rummy said exactly that. Rumsfeld did his best to spin it but he was totally busted. You know the fact that they started mincing words showed how full of shit they were. They pretty much had everyone believing that Iraq was about to bomb the shit out of us. When that turned out to be false they started talking about "the 16 words" and whether they used the words "grave threat" or "growing threat" or imminent threat". Yeah, right, whatever you said it was bullshit. Period. I've been waiting for George Carlin to do a new special. Being a master of the language and an ardent hater of bullshit and stupidity, he's going to have a field day with this administration.
